Transferring License due to SSN Issues, CA BON Contact Info and more…

July 4th, 2010

TONY

hi need help/advice i took and passed the NCLEX RN for CA last dec 2007 and with their new rules i would be needing a SSN for a lic to be issued. i called the CA board of nursing last week and asked for an extension since i only have til dec of this year to provide the SSN. i was told to fax a letter requesting for  an extension. so i did the following day. so after one week (which was yesterday) i received a letter stating that my request was denied and my file is only active til december (basically i just wasted making the letter and faxing it which i was told to do so).

Well anyway, I need help/advice to which state I need to have my lic to be endorsed just to save it. Maybe if you could help me find a state which doesnt require a SSN for licensing and second, one that will not require so much paper work so that I’ll be able to meet the deadline (dec 2010).
will be waiting for your advice. thanks

It would be best to transfer your license to another state such as Vermont wherein they do not require any SSN. But of course these entails expenses as they have requirements such as CGFNS Credentials Evaluation and other paperworks. And the other option is to let it expire and retake the examination. And if you opt to transfer your license to Vermont or any other state it would be best to do it now since you do not have much time. Estimate is around 3- 6 months if you do not have complications with your application. Feel free to browse the Vermont International Nurse NCLEX Pass Form for their requirements.

BUSY

Hello ms Joan. I would like to ask for your advice. My visa would be expiring next year 2011 of November. I would like to ask how I could possibly change my status? I am a tourist here in USA, and I will be taking my exam for CA NCLEX RN on july 7, 2010. Hopefully I would pass, and I am optimistic about that (claim it and God will give it). So I am claiming it.! =) I dont have SSN and we all know that SSNs are only given to residents and we also know that I need SSN for me to be able to get my license card (once I pass). So, how am I suppose to do for me to be able to get SSN? Also, is it possible to apply for jobs even without the actual license yet? and without SSN? Please do reply via my email. Thanks a lot! Godbless.

I think this goes beyond the area of my expertise and it would be best to talk with an immigration lawyer about issues with regards to your visas and SSN. Its just that these things involve laws, legalities etc in which I think they can give you better advice than I am. Legally speaking, you cannot get a job there without SSN and you would be putting yourself at risk if you work without a license or SSN. And all queries are answered here in the site so that people who are in the same situation as you are can read the answers.

Hi. Do you have any other number that I can call the CA BON? The numbers posted on their website (916)574-7697 has a fax tone while their official number ending in 3350 is out of order. Thanks.

This is another number that was listed: (916) 322-1700 I hope this helps.

DAINEREADER

hi! i am CA NCLEX passer, stated sa letter nila within 3 years since I passed the NCLEX I have to submit sa SSN for my req’ts to be completed. what will happen if I did not submit my SSN? will my NCLEX be cancelled and I have to retake the said exam if ever I apply again for licensure?

If you do not submit within 3 years your file will be abolished and would have to retake the NCLEX-RN examination.

Hi Ms. Joan, I sent a request letter to California Board of Nursing together with a 10$ US POSTAL MONEY ORDER, in order to get my Canditate Report.

My question now are as follows:

1. How long does it usually take to receive the candidate report?

2. Would they send it directly to the state I’m applying for an endorsement to (in this case, Vermont) or would they send it to me (then I would attach it along with the endorsement application)?

It usually takes a month or two before they send it over but usually they do not send it to you but to Vermont.

3. Was the 10$ US POSTAL MONEY ORDER valid? Because this is what I read from other people, but when I visited your site, you mentioned it should be a MANAGER’S CHECK.

If it is a US based postal money order its fine. Manager’s check are for those who are outside US territory.

4. In case it takes so long to get the candidate report, should I just go ahead and send my application first THEN submit the candidate report as soon as it comes?

You can submit your application already since the candidate report will be sent directly to Vermont anyways.

Thank you so much. I only have 3 months left before my NCLEX expires and I’m really bummed out.

I hope all goes well and good luck! I also hope your CGFNS evaluation is done :)

Q&A: No SSN, Transferring Licenses and more…

July 4th, 2010

JONEE

Hi! I passed the California NCLEX-RN exam last year. How would i get my license? I don’t have SSN yet. What happens when it expires?

Unfortunately you cannot get your license without a SSN. It would be better if you endorse your license to another state before it expires. If it expires then you would have to reapply and retake the NCLEX-RN examination.

hi ms joan. i really need help with my problem. i have a cali license right now. i’m trying to endorse it to a connecticut license. i read on their website that i need to have a verification of certification from CGFNS. since my license is from cali i didn’t take the CGFNS. does that mean i have to take it so i can endorse my license to connecticut? or do i only need to submit my documents/requirements to CGFNS and have them verify it then they’ll give me a paper or something saying it’s ok and stuff? btw, i’m here in connecticut right now on a fiance visa and i’m getting married soon. thanks so much!

You just need to have CGFNS verify your documents not necessarily taker the CGFNS examination. Once they verify your records, they will be the one to forward it to Connecticut Board of Nursing. Congratulations on getting married :)

hi,i just want to ask if how much is the total fees endorsing my nclex california to illinois?I cant find it here in their website.May I know the correct website?I have already the forms in illinois so i can process it for endorsement.Do I need to contact the Cali BON to send my results to Illinois? How?pls help me..im very confused..thanks.

This is the link for the Endorsement Application for Illinois. Fee for endorsement is $50.00 and then there is a fee for CGFNS Credentials Evaluation $335 (online application) and $410 (paper application). You would need to have CA BON verify your license so to process that application you need to pay them $60 and they will send the result to CGFNS. Also you would need to take the TOEFL exam which is around $140 to $150. I hope this helped your dilemma and gives you a rough estimate of the cost you would be entailing in transferring your license.

You would need to have your credentials evaluated by CGFNS as this is their requirement. Also bear in mind that you need to request CA BON to submit your NCLEX result and that comes with a fee of $10.  I suggest you start processing your application now since transferring your license and fulfilling these requirements take time estimate 3- 6 months.

Hello. I went to LBC to send my docs to CA-BON. They were asking me of the name of the person in BON or a phone number to be written on the pouch along with the BON address. what do i write?tnx

I don’t think there is a specific person to look for but as for a contact number you can place this: (916) 574-7697. Please bear in mind that if you do not hold a SSN do not push through with your application. They have recently made changes with their application process and will only accept applicants who are currently holding a US Social Security Number.

Q&A: Wrong Graduation Year, California Application and more…

July 4th, 2010

LLOYDIE

Have a question.Made a mistake in the year of graduation and started school with pearson. how to correct it and is that a problem? should the school itself contact them on my behalf?? Thanks

I’m not quite sure if I got your question correctly did you mean that you had it wrong just in Pearson or even in your application in the State Board? Either way you should inform them ASAP just so they can update your records and not have discrepancy on both. The school should only contact them if they were the one who made a mistake on your forms.

OPEL

may i ask po miss joan? pwede po bang mag pa endorse sa arizona kahit di ka US citizen? sa cali po ako nka register eh.. nalilito na ako po talaga and i have all my requirements ready na.. please help po..ty!

The question is have you already submitted documents for California? If you have submitted already then you must continue your application to California until you pass the NCLEX-RN before you endorse to Arizona. The only way you can endorse to another state is when you already passed the NCLEX-RN exam. Also please bear in mind with the recent changes in the rules in CA BON you would not be able to apply with them unless you have a SSN.

JULIEBEE

I would like to ask regarding my application for NCLEX-RN here in ARIZONA. I’m really confused about the English Validation exam like TOEFLs and IELTS that they require for a foreign nursing graduate (like me from the Philippines) so I was just wondering if it is necessarily for me to TAKE it or NOT?? Will they consider me not to take the English Exam since our Nursing Program in the Philippines was all in English? Thanks a LOT! :/

There were only exempted countries which will NOT take any of the given english exams. You would still need to take any of these exams as part of the requirement for AZ BON.

BENEDICT

I’m so confused …=( Please help me . I want to know if Do need to pass TOEFl exam for the requirement of chicago Illinois and regarding my fingerprint card Ive already maled a request letter to them 2 months ago and yet there’s no reply…. I’m kind down right now regarding my apllication at thta state so please help me. Thank you and Godbles

Yes you need to take the TOEFL exam as English is not our primary language. Please try to send a request at this address:

Department of Financial and Professional Regulation
ATTN: Division of Professional Regulation
320 West Washington Street, 3rd Floor
Springfield, IL 62786

Or you can give them a call at this  number: 1 (217) 782- 8556 to follow up on your request.

DEE

Hi! Thank you for responding to my previous question. Now, I need help with my CGFNS application. I’m here at Washington state and I’m from the Philippines. Washington state requires both CGFNS and TOEFL exam. Here’s the case, while I’m still in the Philippines, I went to PRC and gave them the forms they need to fill-out for my NCLEX and CGFNS. Now, they already sent the forms they filled-out. The problem is, I haven’t applied to either of the 2. Would they just keep my records there until I submit my application? Also, I don’t know what kind of report does the Washington State require. Is it the Healthcare Profession & Science Report or the Full Education Course-by-Course Report? And do I need to complete my TOEFL exam before I file my application to CGFNS? Thank you and God bless you more!

Most probably they have them in file but it depends on how long they were sent. Usually they keep on file until a year and if ever it has been disposed of I am sure they will inform you of such actions. As for which type of report is to be done it was not mentioned in the application. Safest is to give them a call and when you apply with CGFNS usually they ask you what state you are applying to. You need to have a TOEFL result as it is part of the CGFNS requirement.

Update: No SSN Issue with California Board of Registered Nursing

June 7th, 2010

I know a lot of people are wondering about the new changes about the application process in California. Sad to say they have made revisions with their process and effective immediately they are no longer accepting applicants without SSN. So if you intend on applying to CA BON and do NOT have a SSN you are just wasting your time and they will just return your application. For further information please read this memo coming from the CA BON:
