i really appreciate your reply. yes youre right. California BON really require local license. i would also like to ask about New Mexico, do they require any local license in the philippines? may i please have the requirements so i could also apply for Nclex? thanks a lot!
I made a guide in applying to New Mexico most of the stuff you need are there. This is the link: Applying To New Mexico Board of Nursing By Examination.

Unfortunately I do not have forms from Saipan Board of Nursing. I will keep on looking and if ever I find more information I will get in touch with you. Sorry about that.

hi, i have one question. i can’t seem to find the link where i can pay for the NCLEX Application Fee thru credit card. hope you can help me with this one. thanks! God Bless!
When you register at PearsonVue it will be part of your process in the application. There isn’t a direct link just for paying via credit card.

hello po. ask lng sana ako na for example, naipass mo na ang nclex. can i go with the tourist visa po? how to apply and anu mga requirements? much better ang visa screen?
ay sya nga po pla, pahabol, 3 years po ba ang validity ng nclex pagnakapasa ka na? what if lumampas na ng 3 years? mageexpire na? what ang gagawin? irerenew lng ba or magtatake ulit? kung irerenew, saan? sensya na po ha. naguguluhan kasi ako. maraming salamt. Godbless
I am not sure if your tourist visa will get you anywhere in terms of after passing the exam. If you are interested in getting a tourist visa then you have to talk or inquire with a travel agency about this. I am not sure if the 3 year validity of the NCLEX is for all states. The thing is though I inquired about this to the California BON and did not get a reply. So I cannot give you a straight answer about this issue.

Hi! Po it’s me again.. ung US citizen na nag nu nursing sa Philippines right now.. The state Ilive in and intend to practice nursing is California. So, do you know po if it is required for me to pass the local board before I can take the NCLex? I don’t intend to practice po kasi dito sa Philippines. Thanks!
With the recent comments from people and with the replies these people are getting from the board it seemed like now even if you are a US Citizen or Immigrant they would want you to take the exam. I know that most of you guys will say that you guys are not eligible to have a license in the Philippines but they say that you can take the exam but just not issued with a license. Though nothing has been made official regarding this if you can take the local boars do it. At least there would be lesser problems on your part when you apply in California.

hi ,graduate ako sa philippines batch 92 sad to say di ako naka pasa, now i migrated already here in california, and i want to continue my degree,do i have to take the exam here in u.s even if i did not passed the local board in the philippines, please help me..hohoho
You definitely need to take the NCLEX-RN exam in order to be able to practice nursing in California. Though there had been recent changes with the requirements one of which is holding a license where you were educated. I do not know how you are going to attack this since its been a while since you graduated and plus the fact that you migrated. Maybe the best thing to do is explain your situation to the board why you do not hold a license in the Philippines.

Nope. Getting a SSN is a whole new different process.I think you get to see your name on the roster once you get your permanent license and that entails obtaining a SSN.

hi mam! i know this is out of the topic but i just want to know what IELTS overall band score and speaking score are required to be able to work in the US? Is IELTS required in applying for the Visa Screen certificate? Is there a reuired score for it? Do i have to obtain hospital experience first before i can apply for work in US? Or trainings can be valid? Hope you can help me. Thanks a lot in advance! ^_^
Some states require having an IELTS score so you just have to check with your state board if they require it and what score they need. The VisaScreen requires the IELTS and overall band score needed is at least 6.5 with no grade lower than 7.0 in the spoken part of the exam. If you are to take the IELTS exam please choose the academic module since that is the one that is required for nurses. As for the hospital experience or training that will depend upon your employer.

Thank you for the informative post. Really helped me answer some of my students’ questions. Dan

Hi miss joan.. i passed the exam [california] June, may expired po ba talaga yan if hindi ako nakapag present ng SSS number sa kanila within years, does it mean po ba na i have to retake it again if i wasnt able to present a SSS number?? advice naman sa next step if mag-agency po ba ako or waht.. thanks po…
Congratulations! I wish I could answer your question regarding the expiration since I inquired about this with the California BON and so far I haven’t gotten any response from them. Well getting a SSN can be pretty complicated but the best thing to do right now is gain experience and at the same time look for the right employer so you can start working your way towards your goal in becoming a nurse in the US.
ABJA
hello, this is abja from nepal.i have applied for the nclex-RN exam about 3 months back and i am waiting for my ATT but i have not received any response from the california board of nursing.I have relatives there in america who want to know about my process .I want to let her know about what is happening in my process and want her to call directly to the california board of nursing, To release my information whenever she makes a call to boards of nursing what shall be my next step for authorization of release of information.I would be very glad to you if i know about this process.
Hi there. You can follow up your application by giving them a call. If you would ask a relative to call for you just make sure that you explain your situation (about submitting the necessary forms and its been 3 months since you applied) and give them your complete information specifically your complete name and address. Also make sure that your relative would be able to ask them the right questions such as if you have any lacking documents that needs to be submitted etc. Hope this information helped.

hi ms joan! thanks for answering my questions last time =)
im still waiting for my fingerprint card to arrive, the thing is when i went to several banks to inquire about the bankdraft, they all have additional charges.they told me that im going to pay $126 (application fee + fingerprint card fee) and an additional $10 for the exchange fee and Php 108. talaga bang ganyan? any advice regarding bankdrafts?
Glad to be of help. Unfortunately, I was not able to do the bankdraft in Manila since I had a relative in the US and just had them take care of that. The total fee for the BON is $126 (application & fingerprint card fee) and make sure you make the draft payable to the BOARD OF REGISTERED NURSING. Usually, banks will really have fees for processing your bankdraft I think its just a matter of choosing which bank will have the lowest fees for the processing.

Hello Mam!
“Once you receive your eligibility you are given by the board 2 years to register with PearsonVue to take the exam. And once you register with PearsonVue (pay the $200 fee) you will recieve your ATT and given 1 year to schedule and take the exam. “==> Is this the same in all State Boards? Im applying for an exam in Hawaii. Thanks very much in advance for your reply
Each state boards may have diferrent protocols in terms of the validity of your letter of eligibility. But once you do register with PearsonVue and get your ATT you are given a year to take the examination.
Hello Joan! Did u go to the Us as a Tourist and did u use the NCLEX as ur reason for applying for a VISA? If yes, I have some questions please:
1. Which one did u present to the American Consul: Letter of Eligibility (from the State Board) OR your Authority To Test (from PearsonVue)?
2. Before you applied for your Tourist VISA, did u have your exam scheduled first or did u finish the interview before u had it scheduled?
Thank you very very much in advance! This will mean so much to me as it will be a big career step! God bless.
I am sorry but I had my tourist visa long time ago so I cannot answer your questions. If you intend on taking the exam in a US territory such as Saipan I think they have special visas just for taking the exam. You can inquire about this with a travel agent.

Hello joan,
I just received my eligibility. I have yet to receive may ATT. My prob is this may apply ako sa saudi and visa nlang ang hinihintay ko.The thing is i really want to go sa california.Ano yung effects pag di muna ako nagnclex dis year?Mageexpire ba yung eligibility ko or may mga papers ba na mgeexpire or may kelangan bayaran ule? if mta2galan p yung visa pwede akong magrevw 4 nclex at mgexam pero what if dumating yung visa ko. Hirap.Pls. help
Your eligibility is valid for 2 years. So with that in mind they are giving you 2 years to register with PearsonVue in order to obtain your ATT. Once you register with PearsonVue, and received your ATT that will be valid for one year.
MYLS
pano po ung check?or money order?wat kind of check b dapat?tnx.
Inquire about bank drafts in various banks. The best way to do is explain to them what you need the draft for and more or less they will get the idea. Just make sure that you take note to whom the draft would be payable to and also know the exact amount needed to prevent errors and delay in your application.
JOANE
hi.. just like the others, the BON is asking for my license. the problem is, i wasnt able to get it. i left philippines last january so i wasnt able to attend the oath taking. is it possible to just send someone and get the license for me? and the diploma they’re talking about is the diploma from the school??? pls help. thank you so much and Godbless…
Yes that is possible. You just need to give an authorization letter to the person you will be sending to get your license at PRC and together with that letter a copy of your valid identification. The diploma they are talking about is actually the diploma that you get from PRC not the school diploma its either that or a copy of your license.

Hi Matilda. Before you can take the NCLEX-RN examination you need to apply to a specific US State. Once you have submitted all the needed requirements amd get approved you will receive a Letter of Eligibility from themsaying that you can take the NCLEX-RN exam. When you get that letter that is the time that you can register and schedule for an examination. Hope this information helped.

I know you are confused and frustrated but all you can do is to comply with their request. So submit a copy of your license or if it would really take a long time before you can get your license what you can do is submit a certification from PRC that you passed the board exams and then once you get your license send them a copy of it. Then have the school answer these 48 questions and request for a copy of your school curriculum. I had the same experience like yours specifically on the part about the school curriculum despite me being able to submit my TOR and all school related documents. If your school asks what is the school curriculum its basically a course description of all the subjects you took to obtain a nursing degree. So that means all the subjects you took from first year to fourth year of nursing school.
ANNE
need ko pa po ba makapasa sa local board bago ako makapag aply ng Nclex california?
Based on the current experiences of applicants it seems that now they are requiring you to have a license to practice nursing in the country where you were educated.

hi, How will i know if I passed the NCLEX California BON, I took the exam in California, USA. Mareregister na po ba yung name mo agad sa website nila. How long? Thanks
You will receive your results via mail usually in 2-4 weeks after you took the exam. But please take note also that release of the results may vary on a lot of factors so what I gave you is just an estimate. Your name will not be automatically in the website since the names listed there are those people who have their actual licenses. In order to get that you need to have a SSN.

hi. i took the nclex-rn exam last february 2008 at san francisco, california but unfortunately i failed. I am now back here in the philippines because my tourist visa expired already. Is there anyway i can re-take the exam once again here in the phil. before my att expires on december 2008? I really want to take the exam, i emailed pearsonvue couplr of times asking questions about this but i didn’t get any reply. Hope you could help me with this. Thank You.
I am sorry to hear about this news. You would need to reapply with the California BON (please take note that they have a different form for reexamination) and wait for another Letter of Eligibility to take the NCLEX-RN examination. Once you get your new LOE then you can reregister at the PearsonVue site and then receive a new ATT. You can only use your ATT once so your old ATT is not valid anymore even if it expires on December 2008. Also there is a 45 day waiting period before you can retake the examination.

hi! :0 i love this website. makes things a lot easier. i’d like to inquire if the news circulating around is true…if your california license has already expired and you still haven’t been granted a visa, you need to take the nclex exam again. how true is this?
Thank you so much for the kind words about the site. Unfortunately I have been trying to find an official answer regarding that but I haven’t received a reply from the California BON. I will keep you guys posted regarding this issue once I get word from my inquiry to them.

Im really confused kasi. thank you.
I need to know what state do you plan on applying? Each US State have different rules and requirements in terms of applying for the NCLEX-RN examination.

helo po. can u pls help me? i took d NCLEX last may 7, 2008. n i still haven’t received my result thru mail. i called last june 19, 2008 n they told me they will resend it. but up to now july 9, 2008, wala pa rin akong natatanggap na mail.. ano po ba advice nyo na gawin ko? tumawag ako ulit a while ago sabi ng operator mg write dw ako ng letter and request another mail pero may bayad na raw. paao ba yun? kng alam mo, pls help me! tnx a lot!=)
First of all what state did you apply in? Because there are some states that are eligible for quick results wherein you get to see if you pass the exam via the Internet but you pay a minimal fee to get the result. But please take note that not all states have that. Also bear in mind the mailing system either here or in the US may be experiencing problems as well so take that in to consideration. If it reaches the two month mark which is on July 19 you can try giving them a call and just try to be as assertive as possible in expressing your dilemma and obviously this is not your fault that the mail isn’t coming through. Just try to get the best answer out of them when you talk to them and hopefully you could reach some sort compromise that can satisfy both parties.

hi ms. joan.. its me again.. i emailed CALI BON and i asked them ung bout sa 2 names.. sb nla ok lng daw un kasi kulang tlga un char spaces sa pearson so kung ano lng ung mgkakasya un na un.. besides my mga supporting docments k nmn to prove ur name.. like un mga records na naipadala mo initially..=)
nyhow.. can i ask nmn about passport.. kasi dba they require na m signature un sa passport eh db un mga nirerelese n passport ngun wlan ng signature.. ok lng ba yun?
I actually haven’t seen the new Philippine Passport but I take it aside from the signature they look at the name and other information in the passport. To be safe, just bring other valid identification such as a driver’s license or PRC license that has your signature. Besides, it is beyond your control if the new passport does not have a signature.

I have been reading your site, and am in the same situation as Dennis (FilAm, U.S. citizen, graduated nursing in PI). I applied late January 2008 to California bon, and received a letter asking for date of entry into U.S. if I was a migrant, and a copy of my license or diploma authorizing me to practice in the country where I was educated. I called to clarify, was asked to send in a copy of all pages of my U.S. passport, and I again sent a copy of my diploma with a letter explaining that I did not take the NLE as I intend to work in California and am a U.S. citizen.
Again, I waited, and just today 7/8/08 found out I WAS APPROVED!!! I was told I can now register with Pearson and schedule to take the NCLEX!!I believe California may be in the ‘process’ of changing their requirements, however, it is not clearly stated on their website. To those of you in my situation, you may want to take the Philippine board right after graduation, just to be certain. It would be a good practice also. I believe a U.S. citizen can take the exam, only not be licensed in the Philippines (with a waiver).
Thank you so much for your advice. This information will really help out a lot of people who are in the same situation as your are. Once again many thanks!

Hi Ms. Joan regarding po ito sa letter of explanation. Sa website po ng rn california gov i dont think na inalis na nila yung letter of explanation please try to browse it again nasa page 2 po pa rin ng application. Ms. Joan please help us, update nyo pa kami what is the latest requirement ng CA BON kasi waste of time and money po kasi kung mapadala namin ang application form without any license babalik ulit sa amin. Depende kaya yon sa processor ng CA BON minsan mahigpit or not. Waiting for your response and thank you for your time.
Thank you for clarifying that but as much as it is written there based on recent applicants they are really requiring you to have a license in the country where you were educated. The best advice I could give you is to take the local boards and obtain your license before applying so there would be lesser worries on your part. Also if you notice the actual application form it is really stated there that international applicants should send a copy of their license where they were educated. There was no mention of a letter of explanation. Hope this information helped.

Good day! Ms. Joan
Last july 8,2008 i received my LOE from California, i’m planning to register using Mail wala kc kaming credit card. I understand po that i need to enclosed the payment of $200 (demand draft, bnk draft) and answer info. sheet and return the envelop back at NCLEX OPERATION.. question po. kailangan po bang regular mailing or EMS (post ofc.) or pwede din pong thru Fed-X. Please Help me. MABUHAY and GOD Bless
To be sure I would advice having it mailed via Fed Ex. It would arrive sooner as compared to using Philippine Postal Service. And more importantly, you can track your mail via the Internet and know when it arrives its destination.

hi ma’am joan, regarding fingerprint cards. nareceive ko po yun but thing is the mailman rolled the envelope with the other mails. so yun fingerprint cards na dapat really flat seemed rolled but not to the point that it is folded. ok lang po b yun or do i have to consider it void?
possible ba na mag pa send ulit sa bon ng ca for another card??
The thing is it might take more time if you request for another set of fingerprint cards. As long as the cards are not folded or have dent in it then it would be fine. Just make sure that when you mail it back to the board make sure that you protect it from being folded or dented.
Thank you so much for your continuous support to the site. Keep those questions coming and I will get back to them as soon as I can.
