good day! just wanna ask some tips ms. joan…. im taking my exam this coming october 10 ‘08… im anxious in how to prepare myself for! i’ve been waiting so long for this exam.I’d read Saunder’s Comprehensive Review 3rd ed.,Mosby’s PDA, and answers a lot of pratice tests. do you have any suggestions that could help alleviate my anxiety? i need ur immediate reponse… thank’s for your support to me and to all nurses that really needs a site like this.. god bless!
I apologze for the very late reply. By now, you are done with your examination and I am pretty sure that even after this exam you would still remain anxious. This is a big obstacle you just accomplished but you still have a long way to go. The challenge for you now is to plan out what you do next whatever the outcome will be with your exam.

I’m an immigrant, and I’m currently here in the United States. I graduated BSN in the Philippines, but I still haven’t taken the local board exam in the Philippines, and I wish to apply in CA for my nursing licensure.
I had read a lot of forums, and it seems that in the other forum, the http://allnurses.com seems to discourage people to apply for California, due to the SSN# as well as the recent requirement of local license from the country of origin. But the thing is, I didn’t take the exam, so I don’t have a license right now. Though from other people, they say that being an immigrant, CA BRN can waive that requirement. I mean, is the local license really that important for the application, even if you’re an immigrant, or already in the US with legal documents to work?
Plus, I have a question regarding the copy of diploma. Should the diploma be a certified true copy or authenticated diploma, or just a photocopy of diploma is enough for the CA BRN?
Thank you very much for your dedication to help us, who were very confused about these nursing licensure. God bless! =)
With regards to your first question you are a US immigrant so I don’t see the problem with you not being able to obtain a SSN. That issue only applies to non US citizen or immigrants. As for the requirement of local license where you were educated this is really a case to case basis. The issue is just being brought up by others since a lot of people have been in this position recently. But like what I said it is a case to case basis.
The copy of diploma they are pertaining to are the diploma that is coming from PRC not your college diploma.

helo po maam joan… thank you that I have found your t site… i have a big problem maam on how to fill up the adrress part in the application form…maam is it ok that I will not include the number of our house since hindi po naming alam at wala po talaga… I came from a province maam and i am confused and worried that I will commit mistakes in the application form…will I also fill up the city in the address part maam while in fact our town is not a city yet? Am I going to put the name of our municipality in the city? …and how about the state?..do I need to fill it up also maam and i will put there the name of our province??… or i will just leave it blank..
Use a format of your address that is being used when you receive mails or billing statements. I think this is the best way to go for you because the last thing you would want to worry about is whether or not correspondence from the Board of Nursing can reach to you or not due to a mistake in the address. Or if you have relatives or friends who can take your mail you can consider that as an option.
another thing that bothers me maam is about the signature.. do I really need to complete my signature both in the fingerprint card and in the application form maam? One thing more is where will I include my diploma maam?? do I need to include it in my application form together with my fingerprint card or I will include it in the requirements coming from my school? and lastly maam that bothers me is the question in the form that states this way…Have you ever applied for or taken an RN examination in another state/territory? If yes, State/Territory__________ Month __________ Year __________…?? Will I mark it YES maam since I already taken an RN examination here in the Philippines last june 2008 or I will just mark it NO…pls help me maam…kindly consider all my questions maam…your response and guidance will be of a great help to me maam since youre the only one whom I know who can really help me.. and this will be highly appreciated by me maam…pls, pls, maaam….thank you very much maam JOAN
You need to have signatures where it is requested or else your forms will be considered incomplete. As for the diploma what kind are you pertaining to? If you are applying to California Board of Nursing they are most likely pertaining to your PRC Diploma NOT your college diploma. They only need a copy of your license or a certification coming from PRC that you are a registered nurse in the Philippines. You will need to attach this proof together with your application form.
The question that you are bothered about pertains to the US Licensure Exam NOT the local board exam so if you have not taken the NCLEX-RN exam in the state you are applying or any other US states then you need to mark NO.
