MAI

good day! just wanna ask some tips ms. joan…. im taking my exam this coming october 10 ‘08… im anxious in how to prepare myself for! i’ve been waiting so long for this exam.I’d read Saunder’s Comprehensive Review 3rd ed.,Mosby’s PDA, and answers a lot of pratice tests. do you have any suggestions that could help alleviate my anxiety? i need ur immediate reponse… thank’s for your support to me and to all nurses that really needs a site like this.. god bless!

I apologze for the very late reply. By now, you are done with your examination and I am pretty sure that even after this exam you would still remain anxious. This is a big obstacle you just accomplished but you still have a long way to go. The challenge for you now is to plan out what you do next whatever the outcome will be with your exam.

PAUL

I’m an immigrant, and I’m currently here in the United States. I graduated BSN in the Philippines, but I still haven’t taken the local board exam in the Philippines, and I wish to apply in CA for my nursing licensure.

I had read a lot of forums, and it seems that in the other forum, the http://allnurses.com seems to discourage people to apply for California, due to the SSN# as well as the recent requirement of local license from the country of origin. But the thing is, I didn’t take the exam, so I don’t have a license right now. Though from other people, they say that being an immigrant, CA BRN can waive that requirement. I mean, is the local license really that important for the application, even if you’re an immigrant, or already in the US with legal documents to work?

Plus, I have a question regarding the copy of diploma. Should the diploma be a certified true copy or authenticated diploma, or just a photocopy of diploma is enough for the CA BRN?

Thank you very much for your dedication to help us, who were very confused about these nursing licensure. God bless! =)

With regards to your first question you are a US immigrant so I don’t see the problem with you not being able to obtain a SSN. That issue only applies to non US citizen or immigrants. As for the requirement of local license where you were educated this is really a case to case basis. The issue is just being brought up by others since a lot of people have been in this position recently. But like what I said it is a case to case basis.

The copy of diploma they are pertaining to are the diploma that is coming from PRC not your college diploma.

TWINKLE

thnk u so much Miss Joan!I really appreciate your help & support to all nurses who wish to be US RN.More power & God Bless you always..

ANNE

helo po maam joan… thank you that I have found your t site… i have a big problem maam on how to fill up the adrress part in the application form…maam is it ok that I will not include the number of our house since hindi po naming alam at wala  po talaga… I came from a province maam and i am confused and worried that I will commit mistakes in the application form…will I also fill up the city in the address part maam while in fact our town is not a city yet? Am I going to put the name of our municipality in the city? …and how about the state?..do I need to fill it up also maam and i will put there the name of our province??… or i will just leave it blank..

Use a format of your address that is being used when you receive mails or billing statements. I think this is the best way to go for you because the last thing you would want to worry about is whether or not correspondence from the Board of Nursing can reach to you or not due to a mistake in the address. Or if you have relatives or friends who can take your mail you can consider that as an option.

another thing that bothers me maam is about the signature.. do I really need to complete my signature both in the fingerprint card and in the application form maam? One thing more is where will I include my diploma maam?? do I need to include it in my application form together with my fingerprint card or I will include it in the requirements coming from my school? and lastly maam that bothers me is the question in the form that states this way…Have you ever applied for or taken an RN examination in another state/territory? If yes, State/Territory__________ Month __________ Year __________…?? Will I mark it YES maam since I already taken an RN examination here in the Philippines last june 2008 or I will just mark it NO…pls help me maam…kindly consider all my questions maam…your response and guidance will be of a great help to me maam since youre the only one whom I know who can really help me.. and this will be highly appreciated by me  maam…pls, pls, maaam….thank you very much maam JOAN

You need to have signatures where it is requested or else your forms will be considered incomplete. As for the diploma what kind are you pertaining to? If you are applying to California Board of Nursing they are most likely pertaining to your PRC Diploma NOT your college diploma. They only need a copy of your license or a certification coming from PRC that you are a registered nurse in the Philippines. You will need to attach this proof together with your application form.

The question that you are bothered about pertains to the US Licensure Exam NOT the local board exam so if you have not taken the NCLEX-RN exam in the state you are applying or any other US states then you need to mark NO.

Q&A: Using A US Address, Country Code, Pearson Vue Registration and more…

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

JHA

hi miss joan.. i need your help.. i have a big big problem.. nakapagbayad na ko ng $200 for the registration.. i already received my ATT.. but the problem is the home telephone no. na nakalagay sa Acknowledgement registration receipt ko is 9999999999. but i entered correctly naman in the required field yung telephone no. ko nung nagfill-up ako online sa pearson vue.

then i checked yung photocopy ng application na pinasa ko sa CA-BON ang nilagay ko don ay yung landline nmen but when i asked to put my telephone no. sa online registration ang nailagay ko ay yung cell no. ko. do i need to correct it kaya?? same nman nagfufunction yon kya lang magkaiba ang phone no. naisubmit ko sa BON at sa Pearson Vue.

may Name and my address sa ATT ko ay correct nman.. yung phone no. lang talaga ang problem ko.. i will be taking my exam already sa Nov.. i’m afraid bka pagdating ko sa testing site.. hndi ako makapag-exam dahil sa phone no. ko.

ms. joan what do you think is the best way to do?? magkakaproblem kya ako?? hope to hear from you soon.. thanks!!!

The thing that is being checked when you enter the testing site is your name in the ATT and in your proof of identification. Just as long as you do not have any discrepancies with that you will be fine. Good luck with your examination :)

MITCH

good day po… ask ko lang po sana kung panu ko ifill up ung sa my bandang address kc po wala number ung house namin, pwede ko po bang hindi na lang ilagay yon? at isa pa po ay young city kasi po po hnd pa po city yong town namin at nacoconfused po ako if don ko po isusulat sa city ung town namin.. at isusulat ko ba ung province sa state or hindi po..pls help me..tnx…your reply is very much badly needed

Which form are you talking about? In general and to be safe use the format of your address that is being used when you receive mails such as in electric or water bills to be sure that more or less the mailman would know where to send your letter. I just find it odd that you do not have your house number and worry that you might miss out any correspondence. To be safe, just put in your town and province in the space provided for the city and leave the state blank cause technically we do not have “states” in the Philippines. Hope this helps :)

PINKY

hi ms. joan.. thank you sa reply.

No problem glad to be of help :)

DEE

I’ve read somewhere that using the address of a relative is an advantage as to communication if there ever will be problems in my application for the Cali Application of Licensure. My questions would sound really stupid but i just wanted to be accurate.

1. Wont i have fraud problems if i input my sister’s address when i dont live there anyway or i have never been there?

The application packet did not say anything about not allowing to use a US address. Besides, you are just using it for communication process to make mailing easier and faster on your part. In the application form, it only stated address it would have been a different case if it asked the address where you resided. If you feel uncomfortable in doing so you can always use your local address in the Philippines.

2. You also suggested a cover letter, do i have to inform them that im using my sister’s address?

You only need a cover letter if you have parts of your application that needs explaining such as not being able to give a copy of your license because it is not yet released etc. It is not necessary to explain to them why you are using your sister’s address.

3. what about the fingerprint card? i would have to use my Phil address, right?

You need to use the same addresses in all forms.

thanks you so much for your time.

Like what I always say whatever it is that is posted here are just guidelines and they are here to give you an idea on how I went through the process and some gathered from other people’s experience. In the end, it will still depend on you on how to go about the thing.

PRINCESS

hi miss joan.. may question lng ako about pearson vue registration, magreregister sana kasi ako online, kaya lng hindi nako makaalis sa pag fill ng address,  dalawa kasi ung nakalagay na addess dun diba, pano po ba un ifil up… ung 2nd address ba, continuation sya ng 1st address mo? tska pano po kung hindi kasya yung address, kasi sobrang haba ng address namin e, kahit i short cut ko sya, hindi parin kasya.

You use the 2nd address area if your address won’t fit in the space provided in the first address area.

You still need to add “2″ since that is Manila’s city code then your 7 digit phone number. “63″ is just the country code for Philippines. You do not need to provide the same email address since they are different institutions. And you are right Yahoo! Mail accounts seems to be having problems filtering mails coming from PearsonVue and more often than not they are placed in the Bulk Folder thus being overlooked.

Q&A: Endorsement to Another State, Bank Draft and more…

Friday, October 10th, 2008

SAVEDBYGRACE

Hi miss Joan thank you for answering my question… I have another question. My friend told me that she will apply in Vermont because California is already crowded, if she passed the NCLEX-RN in Vermont is it possible to work in California by endorsement? another, the application form is in PDF format, which is better to type the information or to print all the application forms and then use my hand writing? thank you  Miss Joan and God bless…

I am not sure about California as being “crowded” because obviously there is no quota in terms of applying to the Board of Registered Nursing. Once you pass the NCLEX-RN exam you can transfer your license to another state its just a matter of fulfilling the other requirements to the state you intend on transferring.  You can do either of the two the important thing is that the information is legilbe.

GALE

gud afternoon…i woukld like to ask where can i get a bank draft form?..because i went already to the bank and they ask me to provide a bank draft form. thank you so much

I don’t think that there is a standard form for the bank draft. This forms differ per institution or bank. You might want to inquire with other banks.

JAJA

hi miss joan.. just want to inform you that i already received my eligiblity.. of course with your help.. thanks so much.. a million thanks.. thanks for answering my concerns.. more blessings to come.. anyways, what will be my next step??? correct me if i’m wrong.. online registration and pay for $200 tru credit card??? i will just follow the steps there ryt.. is it ok if i will use the credit card of my father, who is in the states right now??

I am very happy to hear that and glad to be a part of the process. Here is the thing now that you have your eligibility you can take time and plan out your preparation for the NCLEX exam. I say this because once you register with PearsonVue and get your ATT you are only given one (1) year to schedule a test date. So analyze everything first and assess your readiness to take the exam.

Register online at PearsonVue and pay the $200. Follow the steps given there and yes its fine to use your father’s credit card just make sure that you have the necessary information such as name, billing address, credit card number, security code (the last 3 digits at the back of the card near the signature area), expiration date etc.

PURPLE

hello, I just want to ask po, right now Im working on my Visascreen application, I’ve read that I also need to send a request for validation of license/registration form to the state which I passed my NCLEX. aside from the form, what else am I supossed to send them? are there any fees and documents needed? Im really worried because my IELTS will expire this January that’s why I really need to accomplished it ASAP. thanks maam in advance. :)

I assume that the Board of Nursing you applied in sent you a letter informing that you passed the exam so attach a photocopy of that letter together with the form. At the same time most Board of Nursing have fees to accomplish this form so check on their website the appropriate fee to process this.

JEYLZ

hi miss joan, when i processed my nclex application for califronia BON i used my US address but now im back in the philippines. according to my aunt, they received a letter from California they dont know if that’s the eligibility letter already so they read it to me over the phone. not sure also if that’s the eligilibity letter but it states there that i have to register to pearson vue. my problem is that the letter is with my aunt and they didnt mail it to me. would that possible to call california board of nursing to ask another letter to be sent here in the philippines? can u also send me a sample letter of eligibility? just to see how it looks like. pls… thanks a lot! is the eligibility letter important when registering at pearson vue or not? is there any important no. that i need to know in the letter when registering at pearson vue. pls help me. thanks again.

I don’t think that would be possible since I am afraid that might cause more confusion. Maybe you can ask your aunt to scan a copy of the letter and send them to your email. And its very easy to identify if its a letter of eligibility usually the letter has a header containing the following: IMPORTANT INFORMATION ELIGIBILITY NOTIFICATION FOR NCLEX-RN EXAMINATION. The eligibility itself is not needed when registering at PearsonVue basically what it really does is giving you a go signal to register. This is the common mistake of people some register before applying to their chosen Board of Nursing thus giving them less time to prepare for the exam since time is eaten up in the application process.

Q&A: Application Fee in California, Fingerprint Card Information, Registering At PearsonVue and more…

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

ILMER D.

hello ma’am jo, is it ok to pass the documents from school using special couriers such as fed ex…anyway sa school nman ung sender…ipa pass lng nya thru fed ex..pls ma’am i need ur reply thanks god bless po

Yes that is fine as long as the school is the one sending the documents.

TWINKLE

Hello Miss Joan! Its me again twinkle!I mailed po ung application ko kasama ung requirements at forms galing sa school ko last june after ng Local board exam ko.3 wks later nka recieved me ng letter from them sabi nila after daw nila nireviewed ung application ko kulang daw ako ng $19 for fingerprint fee.

First of all how much was the money that you sent together with your application? For fingerprint processing and application fee the total would be $126. The thing is they informed you of the $19 that was lacking and you complied with it and they verified that they received the amount. Average processing of eligibility is 3-6 months depending on the bulk of applicants and other factors. Here is what I can suggest you can follow up your application after a month or two just so you know where you stand. If there are lacking requirements with your application they would inform you via a letter just like what they did when they said your application lacks $19.

CRISTOPHER

It’s an honor to get in touch with you through email. I got your emails from Philippine Nurses Info.site.

Thanks so much and I appreciate it your support to the site very much :)

I am very puzzled with the NCLEX procedures. i did read lots of information regarding of NCLEX such as application, fees, etc. yet i am still confused. i do have lots of questions in my mind. Would you mind? I am planning to take NCLEX. So i choose CALIFORNIA as my state of option.
Not at all. I mean this is what the site is for to help out people with their application so lets get started with your queries.
1. How much  is really the application fees? Some would say 107, 126 or 200? Which is which?
I know this can get confusing the prices are different depending on what services you are going to use from the California Board of Registered Nursing. So let me give you the breakdown of prices to explain which prices are for what.
  • Application Fee $75
  • Interim Permit $30
  • Fingerprint Process $51
Obviously, you will need to pay the $75 application fee to process your application. In addition, you also have to avail of the fingerprint process fee of $51. All in all total is $126 if you are interested in getting an interim permit then you just add $30 to the total.
2. Do i have to leave blank in SSN in the application form since i don’t have any.?
Yes just leave it blank.
3. Can u breakdown the list of things before passing my application to CA BON for the first time?
You can view my information and guidelines in applying to California BON.
4. do i have to send the demand draft together with the application for the first time? or do i have to wait my eligibility then thats the time i would pay?
You have to send it together with your application or else it will not be processed.
MAICO
I would just like to ask how I will be able to fill up the fingerprint card form from california….I dont’ know what I will write in the blanks…is there a fingerprinting fee in NBI…tnx a lot!
Here are the guidelines taken from the California Board of Registered Nursing website:
Applicants must complete all items which are marked by a black “X” on the card. To facilitate prompt and accurate processing of the fingerprint card by the DOJ and FBI, type or print legibly in BLACK INK all requested information on the card. If any color other than black is used, the card will be rejected and another card will have to be completed and submitted.
Use the abbreviations listed below for the physical description items:
• Height (HGT) – Express in feet and inches. Do not use fractions of an inch; round off to the nearest inch. DO NOT USE THE METRIC SYSTEM. Correct example: 5′ 9″.
• Weight (WGT) – Express in pounds. Do not use fractions of a pound; round off to the nearest pound. DO NOT USE THE METRIC SYSTEM. Correct example: 139 lbs.
• Color of EYES – Black BLK Gray GRY Blue BLU Green GRN Brown BRN Hazel HZL
• Color of HAIR – Bald BAL Gray GRY Black BLK Red/ Auburn RED Blonde BLN Sandy SDY Brown BRN White WHI
Each applicant MUST have his/her fingerprints imprinted only in BLACK INK on fingerprint card. Fingerprints should be taken at a local law enforcement agency. There may be a fee for this service. We advise that you should call first as to a convenient time.
DO NOT FOLD FINGERPRINT CARD. Use a 9″ X 12″ envelope to return your completed application and fingerprint card with fees. Write “DO NOT FOLD” on the envelope. If your card is folded, you will need to complete and submit a new fingerprint card. THIS WILL CAUSE A DELAY IN DETERMINING YOUR ELIGIBILITY FOR EXAMINATION OR LICENSURE.
IGOR
advice po next step after receiving letter of eligibility.. if i reg thru inet, do i nid to fill up p po ba ung envelope na kasama nung candidate bul?.. tnx
Register at PearsonVUe either by mail or via the Internet. If you register via the Internet you do not need to accomplish the forms that were included with the Candidate Bulletin. Please take note that once you register you need to take the examination within one year from the date of your registration.
