JEFF_BRIUNG

Thank you for answering my question. Gusto ko lang po iclarify, gagawa pa po ba ako ng letter to endorse yung bank draft sa BON?

I just think that since it comes together with your forms I do not think it would be necessary. But just in case, if you feel like you can be questioned you may place a note and state your reason. Its up to you which one to do.

STILLSLEEPY

hello! i am applying for CA BON.. my questions are:since i dont have a bank account, is it ok if i use my father’s account for the bank draft and his name appears on the check? and he has to sign at the back of the check for endorsement? the fingerprint card is asking for the ‘race’ and the code is not included in the instructions, unlike in hair and eye color where options are available. i tried typing ‘asian’ but the space is not enough. should i type ‘a’? thanks in advance! god bless!

That is fine since the bank draft will be attached with your application. As for the race I think it would be better to write the whole word (ASIAN) rather than creating your own abbreviation since like what you said there were no instructions whatsoever. It might be too vague to just put “A” as your race as it can mean a lot of things.  Hope this helped thanks!

I would like to share my experience to those who have this problem with CA SSN..My result will expire this Nov..2009 and thankfully to this blog from Pinoy RN info.. I was completely relieved because who might think that there is no hope with this matter… I am also a Pinoy RN who is frustrated with this retrogression and of course I’m stil waiting since my PD is Feb 2007 and since the cut of date for Philippines is May 2005 so, I really don’t know how fast will this processing move.. Anyway, Vermont will accept application eventhough, you are not yet here in US..( Application for those who have passed the NCLEX exam, but do not yet hold a license in a US state can apply ). Go to their website at www.vtprofessionals.org and you can find NCLEX RN passer endorsement application. So, I would suggest you have to do it fast especially to those who have all the requirements and to those who have NCLEX result soon to expire.I hope I have something to share to my fellow nurses.

Thank you very much for sharing this. Indeed this will help a lot of Filipino nurses who are in the same position as you are. We all appreciate this information and we hope to see more of you here in the site :)

BRANDO

Thank you very much. u’re such a big help. goodluck to all who’ll take the nclex!!

No problem glad to be of help. ;)

RHEA

Good day! Please help me. I dont know where to seek help. My name is Rhea Sandoval. I graduated from a new nursing school. I passed the local board last June, 2008. I applied for nclex (California) after graduation. After 3 months of waiting, they sent me mail requesting my school to submit basic nursing program. I sent it to my school together with the enclosed sample. The dean of our school gave to me the envelope and I was the one who mailed it to California.

After 1 month, a letter from California arrived stating the same problem: detailed course description of the whole nursing program(detailed course description). I immediately sent it again to our dean, but its been 2 months already and still they are not doing it. I’ve been trying to contact her but shes always out and shes evading my phone calls.
Okay here is the thing maybe your dean is not the best person to approach with this requirement. Have you tried contacting the school registrar? Because usually they are the ones who handle these papers. The reason that the CA BON is asking you for this is because you guys came from a new school and maybe they do not have records coming from your school before. I personally, had the same experience a few years back when my school changed its status to a university. They gave you a sample of how it should look like and basically what it should state are all the subjects that are being taken during the entire nursing course and a description of each subject plus the number of units etc. I hope this bit of information helped and let me know if you have anymore problems.

Q&A: No SSN, Following Up with CA BON and more…

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

JEFF

hi..pwede po b ibang purchase name nakalagay sa bank draft pagmagbabayad?

As long as you properly endorse it with your application it would be fine.

TRISKELIONGP

gud day po sayo mam. i took the IELTS and CGFNS and passed. i think they were 1-2 months apart of the same year of 2004. This 2009, i applied for VISA Screen. will my IELTS be valid or i have to redo the exam???

I am afraid that your IELTS results are already expired. Validity of the IELTS examination is only for 2 years I am not sure if the results would still be accepted by then if you want you can verify this either with CGFNS or with IDP Australia or the British Council.

MIGZ

I would just like to ask if there is a way to follow up the application for the NCLEX eligibility in California? I submitted all my requirements last October. A month later, I received a reply stating that all of them were accepted except for the “written explanation of not holding a license”. So I again submitted a letter stating I was already an RN here in the Philippines and I will be submitting a copy of my license once i received it. 5 days later, my license was released. I immediately sent a copy to them via mail. Based from the tracking number, they received it on December 2. Up to now, I still have no reply from them. I hope you could share some insights. Thank you very much.

The most reliable way wherein you could follow up with them is by giving them a call. There might have been some hold up with the applications due to the recent holiday season. You can reach them at this number: 1(916) 574-7697, Mondays to Fridays 8:00am- 5:00pm Pacific Time. Hope this info helped :)

Hi ! i have questions po regarding nclex RN ng California. i took the exam last dec at sinuwerte namang pumasa, hinihingian na ako ng SSN and I have 3 years daw or my file will be destroyed. Do i need to go to the US and have an employer within 3 years from the date i passed? What are the steps/requirements po to get an SSN? kung aabutan ako ng 3 year deadline what will happen? what can/should I do? please help me.ty

Of course the most logical thing is to really find an employer who can sponsor you to be able to work there. But with the retrogression this might take a longer period of time. What others do is that they endorse their license to another state but that of course has additional expenses since you need to fulfill the requirements of the state you are endorsing to. Some ask for an extension from the CA BON but so far I haven’t really personally met someone who did such and was successful at it. You still have a couple of years to go I suggest that you think things over first prior to making any moves when the deadline is near that is when you decide on what you would actually want to do. Hope this info helped.

Q&A: Endorsing to another state, CA BON application questions and more…

thank you so much for being patient enough in answering our queries.. Ask ko lang po if u have any tips for someone like me na magtatake ng exam..what do you think is the good site for reviewing NCLEX online..will NCSBN review be ok?thanks po..God bless..

No problem, thank you very much for supporting the site. I did take the NCSBN review it was okay. I mean if you are the type of person who have access online 24/7 then this is a good review. Because you really get to do it on your own pace. But don’t expect it to be lengthy in terms of explanation because as far as I can recall its really summarized. Basically, when you get in to this review it expects that you already have a strong foundation on nursing concepts which is what most reviews really are. Also, you can view my article about the NCLEX-RN review materials that I got to use while preparing for the exam by clicking here.

BRANDO

hi. thank you very much for answering my questions.. uhm another thing po. so kelangan ko din pla po pla ipass ung nursing verification form ko sa school ko? so all in all, i need to submit 3 forms to my school, which is:

  • Request for transcript form
  • Breakdown of educational program for international nursing programs, (and lastly)
  • Nursing program verification form

is that all? thanks po sobra. i also have a question regarding with the forms.

Yes all these forms will be submitted to the school.

BREAKDOWN OF EDUCATIONAL chuva.. : anu ung entrance date? un ba ung first day ko na pgpasok sa skul ko? i cannot recall the exact date. ang alam ko lang june 2004. would that be enough?

Yes that would be fine even without the exact date.

and correct me if im wrong. ung mga subjects na nklagay sa form (anatomy, microbio, ms, mga gnun, tpos my 3 empty blanks sa tabi), ung school na mismo mg fifill up nun dba?

Like mentioned above the school would be responsible to fill all these information out.

and also with the nursing program verification form, cla na lhat dba mgfifill up nun dba? (except for my personal info of course)

Yup you are right :)

last, ung application form po. under dun sa PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION, dun sa “CA nongraduates”, anu po ung ‘date nursng requirements completed’? un po ba ung graduation?

Yes that is your graduation date.

-mgsstart na po ko mgpass ng application dito sa CA, uhmm panu po un? pwde ko po ba ipasa na ung application form? khit wla pa ung tor (and the other documents from my school) ko? pinaprocess pa lang kc un sa pinas eh. pwde ko na ba iuna ung application? or much better na hntayin ko ung tor tpos sabay ko nalng ipasa lahat2?

You can send your completed application form, fingerprint card and fees to the CA BON already. There is no point of waiting for the school documents since it would be coming from the school anyways. Just make sure to follow up the school documents or else your application will not be processed without it.

-and sa anong envelope po ba dapat ilagay ung application form? ung brown one ba? if so, wat size po?

Yes a short brown envelope would be fine. If ever you accomplished a fingerprint card just make sure that it won’t be damaged or bent.

-and same goes with the forms na ipapadala ng skul sa CA BON. anung envelope po ba? dba po kasama din ung mga request form ko na binigay sa kanila? so basically issend nman nla ung mga request forms ko sa CA BON, along with the actual forms. (TOR, etc) and pwde po ba itiklop ung mga un?

Yes it is fine if they all fold it in one mailing envelope. To be sure have them sign the flap of the sealed envelope for security reasons.

-un lang, hehe. sorry po dami ko tanong. taas ng anxiety ko bout the whole thing eh. gusto ko na po tlga simulan mg process kaso di ko pa kc msyado gets, at ayoko din kumilos hanggat di pa clear ang lahat. salamat po tlga. hoping for your reply. god bless

Thank you very much for supporting the site. Just let me know if you have any more questions or hesitation about the whole application process. Good luck!

CHIE

Thanks ms joan!! may question pa po ako, is there any other way para hndi na ako magretake?? like endorsement sa ibang state na hindi nagrerequire ng SSN to issue permanent license?? pwede po kaya yun??

That is what most people do they endorse to another state. But that of course includes more expenses since you have to fulfill the requirements the state you are endorsing to.

NCLEX-RN Review Materials Insight

REVIEW MATERIALS

Trust me I have so many review materials I could have my own library. The first NCLEX-RN review book that I got was the SAUNDERS COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW BOOK I had this since I was in 3rd Year in College. I never used it while in school but upon reading this book while reviewing if you have time and I mean a lot of time prior to taking the exam this is a good book since its very detailed. Personally I find it very overwhelming and I am just not much of a patient reader especially if time is not on your side.

Also if you go to ALL NURSES website one of the moderators there offer like a review guide using this book. She has a 6 week program and attack in using this book as your reviewer in preparation for the exam. I think its pretty good especially if you do have no idea where to begin.

Next I also have the SAUNDERS QUESTION & ANSWER book. If you want to practice answering similar NCLEX-RN question then this is a good book since its packed with questions I think around 3,000 of them. Its a nice book since the answer is already on the right side so you do not need to scroll back and forth to look for answers. And personally I am the type of person who wants to see the answer after I take a question so this worked for me. I got a tip from a nurse in Las Vegas when I was there on how she reviewed for the NCEX-RN exam so might as well share it with you guys. So what she did was she reviewed each and every question in the book and analyzed each rationale for the answers. Its like hitting two birds in one stone since you get to be familiarized with the format of the NCLEX-RN question and at the same time improve her analyzing skills.

On a personal note this is a good review book if you feel you have good theoretical foundations since there is no point rationalizing the answers if you are clueless about the basis of the answer.

Then I also have the DAVIS’ NCLEX-RN SUCCESS book which was pretty much my favorite. It was the simplest of the 3 books that I have and I personally had the opportunity to meet the editor of the book Ms. Sally Lagerquist. The book was made in such a way that the topics were not overwhelming and the books had appendices which served as good guides. I got the opportunity to talk with her personally and she explained how the book works to me. They had appendices for diagnostic procedures so you can just look it up there and find the pages where it comes up as well as if you are a 2nd time test taker when you receive you Grade Sheet where you got low scores you can use Appendix C as guide to focus on those low areas and then find all the pages where that area content is found.

I got 2 minor books the SAUNDERS and KAPLAN NCLEX-RN Strategies for Success. If I had known before I should have just gotten one or the other since they have similar content. Basically, what these books talk about are strategies for the exam. They discuss certain topics as sample questions but basically its all about how to attack or dissect questions. Its a good read either before starting your review or a way to end your review. Its a must read before taking the NCLEX-RN exam since it gives you an idea how questions are during the test so you won’t get shocked when you take the exam.

Aside from all of this each books have review CD’s which have questions in which you can answer as practice exams.

I also took the NCSBN Learning Extension Online Review. Its a lot cheaper as compared to most online review. I find the questions similar to that of the actual exam but the lecture part of the review is too bulleted for me. Also if you can discipline yourself with just focusing your time on reviewing rather than surfing the net then this is a good review.

When I was there in the US I also took a 4 Day Course with Sally Lagerquist and it was very helpful on my part since like what I said with my previous entry it helped me to understand the American way of learning and thinking, their way in attacking questions and their point of view.

LENGTH OF STUDY

This will vary from person to person and will depend on your intensity. Its a matter of motivation and perseverance for success. It took me 2- 3 months to prepare for the exam giving myself at least 8 hours a day to review.

WAITING FOR THE RESULTS

I had my results 2 weeks after I took the exam. This will vary from person to person and the state in which you are applying. Also the mailing address you placed might be a factor too. I used a US based address so it is possible that receipt of results were faster as compared to having it mailed here in the Philippines. Depending on the state that you choose they might offer QUICK RESULTS wherein you get to know the results after 2 days.

To end this lengthy post I would just like to say that the NCLEX-RN experience will vary from person to person and you might think that the more review materials you have the better but the more important thing is you make the best out of the review materials that you have at hand. The outcome of the exam will depend on YOU not your materials. Trust me I had my fair share of mistakes when it comes to reviewing and just be honest with yourself and think if the approach you have with your review is working for you.

It was nice to be able to share this with everyone and keep those posts coming. God bless everyone!
