Q&A: Applying In Vermont, Sample of CA BON Cover Letter and more…

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

JANETH M.

Good day maam, I’m not sure of what state would I apply for NCLEX.Recently I request for the fingerprint card on California Board of Registered Nursing but I changed my mind instead I choose Vermont BON.Is it okay if i will not pursue my application in California though I already send a request for fingerprint card? And more thing,do CaBRN still process your documents even if you don’t have the SS number? Hope you can enlighten my mind about this. Thank you.

Having the CA BON fingerprint card does not limit you on what state you would want to apply. Even with the fingerprint card, you can still apply to a different state. Yes California will process your application even without the SSN but you would not be able to get a copy of your license without the SSN.

Ms.Joan, thank you very much… for your “genuine service” to all of us.

You are most welcome. Glad to be of help :)

1.) would it be ok to go on with my plans during at these recession times? and considering too with the retrogression of Visas at the moment….

The application process for the NCLEX-RN examination has no direct effect with the retrogression. It is the issuance of the US Visas to be able to legally work in the US that is affected.

2.) I plan to apply in NY,with regard to NCLEX ..once could have the Visa screen—is my license/NCLEX validity in NY secure for 5years or despite the visa screen,NCLEX has just validity of 2years… thanks for the time.

The VisaScreen and the NCLEX have two different functions. So treat them as a separate entitiy. Meaning, the validity of the VisaScreen will have to be renewed every 5 years and the same goes for the NCLEX-RN exam the results should be renewed depending on the state you applied in not unless you are issued a permanent license you renew it depending on the their regulation.

mam joan i want to ask regarding my status i’m here in michigan applying for nclex rn, i do all the documents needed here but still im waiting for their eligibility . i havent applied yet in pearson because i waiting for the eligibility to take exam, is it a right way to do, wait for eligibility and after i got my eligibility that the only time i applied for nclex rn

Yes because once you register with PearsonVue and pay the fee and you will receive your Authorization To Test (ATT) and that will only be valid for one (1) year. Not having the eligibility ties you down to the given one year validity and just in case you have problems with your application then that eats up time in the one year period.

DR. IAN

Thanks for patiently addressing all my queries on your email.  It really gave me a clearer view this time on how to start with the processing of my NCLEX application.  Your website is truly helpful.  More Power!

No problem glad to be of help.

Ms. Joan, I saw in some of the post here that in sending your requirements to the Board of Nursing in Ca you commneted that a cover letter has to be attached together with the requirements and letter of explanation.  can you give me an idea as to the content of the cover letter.  Thanks

Here is a sample of the cover letter.

Q&A: Lack of Requirements, Being A Second Courser and more…

MARA

hi. ask ko lang sang site pwede makita yung mga list ng passers for california Nclex.? is it true na after 3 days malalaman na if you passed or failed? tnx

You will get your results via mail they do not post a list of passers in California. As for the Quick Result scheme, California does not participate in that only other states. Usually, results from California take 2- 4 weeks before it arrives via mail.

MITCH

hello po again maam..tanung ko po sana maam kung pano ako magpaschedule ng exam sa makati.. pwede po bang trough net or call lang po? at what po tatawagan ko na number po maam? thanks po ulit maam..

Unfortunately, you would have to schedule your examination via a phone call. You can reach them at this number: 603 8314 9605 Monday- Friday 9am to 6pm in Australian Eastern Standard Time. When you call, make sure you have your ATT on hand as well as other forms of identification.  And prior, to calling make sure that you already have preferred test dates so that when they ask you, you can provide them with more options.

pwede ko po bang gamitin ung ATT ko maam na senend sa email ko at ipaprint ko na lang po yon or hintayin ko pa po na may ipadala po sakin na ATT through mail?

Actually the ATT that was sent in your email is your ATT. So you really have to print and present that on your actual test date. They won’t be mailing you any copies of ATT anymore.

BURNIK

totoo po ba pag pasado ka sa CA nclex less than 3 weeks makukuha mona result at pag pagsak 3 weeks and up?

That is not an accurate measure of determining whether you passed the NCLEX-RN examination. Most results coming from CA BON usually takes 3-4 weeks or even later depending on a lot of factors.

hi joanne. just wanna ask about my application status, i have already submitted first my requirements since Nov 2008 and my school claimed that they have already forwarded my requirement to calif BON, last february 2009 i have received letter from calif BON that they had received only my my requirements but not with the requirements coming from my school, i have already verify to my school postal office that they were able to send my requirements slast Nov. 2008, so how will i know if i’d still be waiting for it or i have start again with the school requirements? pls ans thanx

I think it would be better if you just resubmit the school requirements rather than waiting for something that is very uncertain. What you can do is request the school with the necessary documents and then instead of them mailing it you can mail it yourself but use the school’s address as the sender. Because there might have been problems with the mailing the first time you had it done so we would want to prevent that from happening. It would also be better if you use a special courier in mailing the documents so that you can track the status of the documents and find a location that is near the area of the school.  Also, please take note that if you are to use a courier they do not accept P.O. Box address so instead use the following: Board of Registered Nursing 1625 North Market Boulevard, Suite N217 Sacramento, CA 95834-1924. I hope this information helps. Good luck!

hi! ms. joan… I have a question po… paano po kung 2nd course mo ang nursing… yung first course ko po ay MT and then 3 yrs ko po ito kinuha sa isang school… then i transferred po then after MT kinuha ko po ang nursing… Regarding dun s request of transcript need ko pa po mgbigay nang form sa dati kong school kasi na credit lang naman iba subj from my first course n dun ko kinuha…kasi po naguguluhan ako dun s page 6 nang application form for nclex…
thank u…

Here is the thing, more often than not when you transfer school and you have subjects that were credited from your previous school it should reflect on the transcript where you graduated. So verify first with your school registrar if it is reflected. If not, then what you can do is request a transcript of the grades that were credited. Let me know if you are still having problems.

Q&A: Applying In NCLEX-RN CA from Dr. Ian G.

Sunday, March 15th, 2009
Hi Everyone!
I received an email from a someone named Dr. Ian G. and I thought that it would be good to share with everyone his letter because I am pretty sure a lot of people are in the same situation as him. Here were his questions:
Good day Ms. Joan,
I’m glad that you are there to share your insights on NCLEX RN first takers to assist in the porcessing of the said licensure examination.  I for one is an avid reader of Pinoy BSN coz it helped me a lot in my nursing career updates.  I have just passed this November 2008 Nurse Licensure here in the Philippines.
I am glad that you found my insights helpful. Unfortunately, I am no longer contributing to PinoyBSN though most of my posts there have not yet been removed. A you can see I already established a site of my own dedicated in helping Filipino Nurses and I hope that you would still visit the new site and continue to support me here. Also, congratulations in passing the recent board examination.
Anyways, I would like to ask few things regarding the processing of my NCLEX exams.  To start, I am considering to file my application in California after reading all the tips you have posted on pinoybsn. I have also opened the California Board of Nursing website and have been clarified on few matters. I am actually leaving for the United States this May as a tourist, though no definite date yet since I will be taking my oath this April there in Manila and is scheduled for the IELTS exams this coming April as well. Once the result in my IELTS exams be released will it be needed in my application for NCLEX RN in California?
The IELTS result is not a prerequisite in applying in California Board of Nursing. You will need your IELTS once you apply for VisaScreen once you pass the NCLEX-RN examination.
I would like to ask for your advise on the things I will be taking, like is it better to submit my application once I’m already there or will I mail it ahead of time before I arrive there in the US?
Please be reminded that processing of application for the CA BON may take 3-6 months depending on a lot of factors.
After visiting the Calif BON website, I have come to realize that Live Scan for fingerprinting will be more beneficial on my part since it would take only a week or two to process since I will be available in the US by the time I will file my application, would you suggest the same way?
The LiveScan process indeed is faster but is also a bit more costly. And if you are to submit your application ahead of time then you would have to include the fingerprint card together with your application. But if you decide on processing your papers in the US then it would be okay to go ahead with LiveScan.
Is it possible that I will just request my school to hand me over the documents(sealed)  needed from my school and I will be the one to mail it to the Board of Registered Nursing in California once I’m there? Or is it really the school that has to mail the said documents? Can I request it ahead of time for them to send before I would send my application since I’m planning to send it to California once I’m already in Maryland, USA.
Supposedly its really the school that would have to send the required forms. But most schools do not offer such service so what we do is have them place all the documents in a sealed envelope with signature and school seal and then you mail it like its coming from the school. Do you get the idea? I also suggest that you use a mailing facility that is near the school. And it would be better to have your personal application sent first just for reference rather than having all the school documents first than your own application. To also minimize the chances of your documents getting lost.
And since I will be taking my oath this April in Manila, and I believe that the ID license will not be available that soon would it be possible that I will just have to send a copy of my diploma and board certification (once available) together with my other applications and just give them an explanation letter for the reason why I could not give them the ID license that soon? Will i state in my letter that once the ID license is available and that’s the time I will be sending them a copy of it?
Yes you are correct. But it would be better if you can give them a certified or an original copy of your certificate of passing and board rating. Then just send a copy of your license once you have it on hand.
Will it affect the processing time of my papers? Or better yet that I will just not state the the ID license will come to follow.
It actually depends on who evaluates your papers. But usually the certificate of passing suffices. Since they are asking for a copy of your license I think you should follow through with it so whenever your license is released just send them a copy.
Thank you so much Ms. Joan for reading this mail and hoping that you could assist me in the processing of my NCLEX RN.  Hope to hear from you soon and hope to receive a mail from you soon regarding my inquiries.  More Power to you.  My prayers are with you. God Bless!
Glad to be of help. You can view more articles in the site that may help you with your application. Feel free to leave a comment in the site and I would reply to them as soon as I can. Thank you so much for your continued support and good luck with the application.
P.S. Hope that this communication would be open for any future inquiries regarding my application.  Thank you in advance.  Thanks for the time as well.
No problem feel free to message me anytime.

Q&A: New York NCLEX-RN Application, IELTS Expiration and more…

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

ANA

hello! good day! I just would like to ask if both the IELTS and NCLEX certification does expire? I seek to be licensed in new york and I am waiting for my eligibility from the NY state board of nursing. I am scheduled to take the IELTS exam next week and I am having second thoughts since I have heard that the IELTS certificate should be used within two years.

Yes the IELTS has a 2 year validity period. As for the NCLEX, it depends on what state you applied to since they differ from one another. The IELTS is mainly used in obtaining the VisaScreen certificate. I think the 2 year validity would be enough to accomplish everything.

ARLA

Hi. Please tell me how to use saunders compre book. Do you have a plan on how to go through this book? I did suzanne’s first tip only to find out that it is not available anymore. Now, i am totally lost. I don’t know what to do. Please help me.

Obviously, I am not allowed to disclose Suzanne’s method in approaching the book. Have you tried to contact here with regards to her process? Personally, like you, I found the book quite overwhelming. Here is the thing, if you have like tons of time prior to the exam this is a good book to start on since it discusses the topics comprehensively. What you can do is answer the Q&A part of the book per chapter just to assess your knowledge per subject matter. After that, go through the comprehensive lecture and then re-answer the Q&A. I know by the time you re-answer the Q&A you would have had the answer at the top of your head, but just make sure to rationalize with yourself as a way of really knowing that you understood the concept. I hope this helps and you can read my article about NCLEX-RN Materials Insight at the link provided.

ZEBAH009

what are the steps of applying NCLEX eligibility at NY?….and is IELTS necessary for applying NCLEX eligibility?

You can download the New York Nursing Application Packet which contains all information and forms in the link provided. IELTS is not a standard requirement it depends on the state in which you are applying to. Like for example in NY, its not a requirement but they do require you to have your school credentials verified by CGNFS and avail of their services called Credential Verification Service for New York State as well as the Child Abuse Seminar.

Hi! I would just like to ask if it’s ok to use my Nevada fingerprint card in applying for California NCLEX?

Nope you cannot use it. Since each state has something imprinted on the Fingerprint Card that is for their own use. Specifically, Nevada fingerprint cards have the address of the state Board of Nevada and they have a code written in the Reason Fingerprinted as well as the MNU box. If you use their cards it might create conflict with your application. You can request for California Fingerprint Cards at the link provided.

MARIANNE R.

good morning… just have a question… kasi po my ielts will expire in sept.. then jst now lang kao ng process for visa screen… lahat nman ng papers ko pinaDHL ko.. umabot po kaya sya sa time? sept 22.. expire po ang ielts..

Usually VisaScreen processes papers with an estimate of 1-3 months this is considering that all your papeworks proceed smoothly without problems. In my case, I had difficulty with my PRC License verification that is why mine took 3 months but if I did not have any issues it would have been finished at an earlier time. My best advice is for you to track the status of your application at the CGFNS website since all of the correspondence would be done through the site. If you do not have a CGFNS account you can register online for free.
