Q&A: Transfering of License, Fingerprint Cards and more…

BERNICE

Hi, i would like to clarify the steps on how to transfer my California license to New York. I just don’t know where to start? can you estimate the cost of the transfer?? will it cost me much??? should i start with CVS or i go straight to NY state education department? thank you in advance!!! have a lovely day!

It will cost you a lot the CVS itself is around $300 + already and that is just the beginning since you have to consider the application fee and I think New York also requires seminar for child abuse etc. I guess filing with the CGFNS for your CVS would be the first step since that might take some time before it will accomplished. Just think about it first if you really want to transfer to New York it might be costly but if you have work waiting for you there or you really intend to practice on that state then the pros weigh more than the cons.

good day! i would like to ask if i have to pay for my fingerprint card application ($126)thru bank draft to whom will I address it? is there any site where i can pay it using my visa card? tnx!

This is an application for what state? Are you pertaining to the state of California? If so, the fingerprint cards you requested are free the registration fee should be included in your application.

ma’am tnx po so much sa reply niu in my last query… ma’am panu po kung nagtransfer ako ng ibang skul,.. on my documents, my skul announced that i entered their skul in 2006.. e panu po ung 2004-2006 na records ko sa una kong skul, will i just add it on my application or not na po?

You might be questioned if you do not declare it. Supposedly, the school you graduated in carried over the subjects that were credited from your previous school but if that is not the case then you need to request from your previous school a transcript containing those subjects.

EXAMINEE 0705

hi good day… i just found the website thru simply surfing and browsing. and i find the site helpful. mam, i would like to ask about the vermont retake for the NCLEX. how many months do we have to wait before our application for re take would be approved? i am just worried because it’s been almost 3 weeks since i sent them my application but still i got no feedback from them.

Thanks glad to be of help. It might take a while since they would look in to your data and all but igve it atleast a month or so to process everything. If I am not mistaken you can also look into it online regarding your status. Well no need to rush things as you need to wait between 45- 90 days before you can retake the examination. Hope this helped :)

TWISH09

hello there. do i have to mail the fingerprint cards and the application form(and the fees) altogether? or can i  send the application form first? then wait for the fingerprint cards to be sent in the mail since i still have to request for them thank you :D

It would be better to send everything altogether. Just so to prevent any misplacing of forms. Besides they might not process your forms if their incomplete so might as well send them altogether.

Q&A: Retaking the NCLEX-RN Examination, Change of Address and more…

NEOTRINITY

Hi! I would like to clarify about the retake forms. In California, they gave the instructions to download the forms.  But they also said that once you pass your requirements, you dont need to pass them again.  in the reapplication forms, (by the way, they did not send any reapplication forms with the rejection letter) there’s a nursing verification form for your school (again?).  i thought we dont need to pass any more forms that we previously sent the Cali BON?  I really need to know which form/forms to send coz I cant wait to retake my exam.  Need to get it over with ASAP. Thank you in advance.:D

Okay here is the thing, if you have sent a nursing program verification form before then it is not necessary to send them again. All you need to mail to them is the filled up re-application form and the fee of $75. After mailing those forms, you should receive your ATT after a month or so. But please bear in mind that you have to wait for 45 days since you last took your NCLEX-RN exam before you can reregister in PearsonVue.

hello maam.. I received a letter from california stating that I passed the NCLEX-RN exam and that they are requesting me to submit my US SSN which I dont have. What should I do maam?..And how will I confirm that I really passed the test? Can I call them? And kailangan ko pa po bang magtake ng CGFNS at IELTS for california maam? What shall I do next maam?..

Congratulations! Well the letter is enough to confirm that you have passed the test as it states. As for the US SSN the thing is you have to find an employer for that. As for the CGFNS and IELTS it is not a pre requisite for California Board of Nursing. You might want to consider applying for the VisaScreen which some employers look for in Nurses but way all options first since US is in recession and currently no visas are being released so you might want to consider that first. You can always gain experience first in the field to broaden your options.

I am getting married within the year to an American but I still wish to practise my profession. I have taken it twice but failed.  Is it better to take it after getting married. Will my married status erase my record of passing it twice in a row? Or is all right to retake th eNCLEX prior to getting married. I am confused as I am no longer practising my profession after having flanked twice. Thanks, Joan

I don’t think your civil status would change the records of your NCLEX-RN exam taking history. And if you are married, make sure you inform the Board of Nursing in which you applied to about the changes. Usually, most Board of Nursing’s have forms pertaining to Change of Name/ Address forms. You just need to take this as a challenge more than anything else. Before taking it again, take time to analyze everything and see where you think things went wrong. If it helps, you can view my article called NCLEX-RN Materials and Tips that might help you out. Good luck and let me know if I can help you with anything else.

i’ll be taking my NCLEX-RN exam here in the Phils this coming november. the address in my ATT is my mom’s address in california and i’m currently residing here in the Phils. will the Board still allow me to take the exam even if i have a different address indicated in my ATT? Thank you Mam and God bless!

Yes the address would not be an issue. What you need to consider in taking the exam is the name on your ATT should match the one in your passport. Good luck with your examination!

hi! cud sum1 help me pls? im applying for nclex. in sending my otr, do my school have to send the original or the certified photocopied one? Should they also attached the university diploma? i have my PIC already, do i also have to send my board certificate?

Okay I am kind of confused with your question. Your school should be the one sending all the requirements that they are asking from the school not you. The college diploma is not necessary what you need to send together with your application form is the copy of your license if you do not have one at the moment the board certificate would be fine.

Update: International Nurses Who Seek Licensure for Vermont

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

For those international nurses who seek licensure in Vermont there has been some changes with their requirements as of July 01, 2009. They are now requiring international nurses to have their credentials reviewed by CGFNS. They will not be conducting internal assessment of credentials and instead would be requiring you to avail of the CES Full Education Report or the Healthcare Profession and Science Report.

It is a sad news since this would be an added expense for everyone but then again maybe consider this as an investment as this can be used in other states as well if you intend to transfer.

Hope this information helped and good luck to everyone!

MAC11

hi good day to all, my name is Mac and i need your help guys ,napasa ko yung nclex sa CAli then na recieve ko na yung license ko, wala akong local license and ielts, gusto ko sana mag work dito sa illinois ,ask ko lang kung pano mag pa endorse and yung mga requirements na kelangan, please help me salamat in advance

Hi Mac! First, congratulations on passing the exam :) If you want to practice in Illinois you would have to endorse your license to that state. You can view the Endorsement Application for Illinois at the link provided and most of the information you need are there. You would also need to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) as part of their requirment as well as avail of the CES Report by CGFNS to assess your school credentials.

SGNurse

I just recently discovered this site and I find it very helpful.I would like to inquire about my Visa screen certificate that will expire on 2010 although all my papers are already submitted in NVC by my employer and I am just waiting for my case to be current. Due to the retrogression, I am confused what will happen to my Visa screen since I only got CGFNS and IELTS certificate and until now I havent got RN US license. Thank you.

Thank you very much glad to be of help to everyone. Well as long as your papers are not yet filed you would have to renew your VisaScreen certificate to make it current. To be sure, verify with your employer or agency that is handling your documents for the US. But as far as I know it has to be renewed until your papers are finalized. Reading the link provided about Renewing Expired VisaScreen at the link provided might be helpful to you.

hi..how can i forward my nclex result to cgfns? my state is california…

You would have to send the Verification of License Form which is provided by CGFNS to the California Board of Nursing. Fill out the necessary details and mail it to this address:

California Board of Registered Nursing
Attn: Renewals Unit
P.O. Box 944210
Sacramento, CA 94244-2100

Also, please do not forget to include a money order of $60 and make it payable to Board of Registered Nursing. Once they receive the forms, they will be the one to forward it to CGFNS .

SUNSHINE B.

hi, ms. joan! ;) im glad to see ur website and it is so nice of you to help us your fellow nurses.. :D i have certain concerns and hoping you could help me..

Thank you very much and glad to be of help.

first: is it true that if I will apply for New York NCLEX-RN i must get CVS first and wait for it for about 7-8 months? is it really that long? then after that i will have to wait for another 4-5 months for eligibility?

The CVS requirement is correct. But as for the waiting time it might vary due to a lot of factors. Of course, if you give the correct requirements and information to CGFNS processing would be faster. You are given a year to fulfill all the requirements needed by CGFNS. As for the processing in New York that is another thing and processing will vary from one applicant to the other.

second: if i will apply for CA NCLEX-RN and fortunately i will passed it, is it possible that i could work in NY instead? how long will it be process?

You can always transfer your license to New York but the thing is you would still have to fulfill New York Board of Nursing’s requirements which is the CES. So it would be better to apply to  the state where you really intend to work in.

i will appreciate any information that you could give me.. thank you! God Bless! :)

Hope this helped :)

hi ms. joan! thank you for the infos here, they’re really helpful. i would just like to ask, if you requested for the fingerprint card first thru the link that you gave in the article above, will the board send it and ask you for the payment after? or they won’t send it unless you payed them first? thank you for you help in advance. i really need guidance coz i’m pressured by my parents. i don’t know if i should work first or get these exams over with.

There is no payment for the fingerprint card. They will just send you the fingerprint at no charge. Do not give in to the pressure, I am sure you’re parents are just thinking what is best for you. Stay positive and keep your cool ;) Let me know if I can help you with anything else.
