Q&A: Difference of CES and Visascreen, Transferring Licenses and more…

MARVIE

hi ms joan! is CES different from visa screen?

Yes its different. CES is used to evaluate your credentials and school records. While as the VisaScreen is used for immigration purposes but also includes the evalauation of your credentials and records. In order for you to successfully obtain a VisaScreen you would have to be able to pass the NCLEX-RN and the IELTS examination.

hi.. can you help me?… i am an nclex passer from the state of california and I didn’t take CGFNS exam. to process for an endorsement or to transfer my “license” do I need to take CGFNS exam to process?

Not necessarily. It depends on what state you plan on transferring your licenses to. Each state has different requirements.

EIGNA_01

hello!..this is my first time to post a comment,.hope you can help me.. someone told me to apply for interim permit but the thing is that,. i’m not a NLE passer..and it’s too late when i knew about it because i already passed my application letter..and I received a letter from BRN, a list of all the requirements and it is included the copy of my license from phil.. what pong gagawin ko para po malaman nila na wala po akong license and pwede po bang pacancelled nalang ung interim permit?…
PLEASE help me..Godbless po!

If you are an immigrant or a US citizen you can always write a letter addressed to CA BON the reason why you do not hold a license in the Philippines. But for other reasons, that might be a difficult case to defend since a license in the country where you were educated is a requirement. I thought you were not able to apply for an interim permit? Whether or not you use the interim permit is up to you.

hi! i just wanna just, if iin the new policy of nclex vermont, do we still have to take the cgfns exam first? coz im a bit confused about that. i want to start processing my papers but this issue confuses me.. pls i need your response :) thanks a lot!

No they only need you to apply for the CES Report NOT the CGFNS Qualifying Examination.

JCREISHA

hi just want to ask when am I going to submit the application form for licensure rn in new york state?! is it after credential verification from cgfns?! if new york state have already mailed me their reply?! thanks a lot… (^_^).v.

You can submit it now because even if you applied for the CGFNS verification the evaluation of your credentials will be forwarded to New York BON not to you.

You can always endorse your license in Texas but be ready to fulfill the other requirements  that they have. If you are planning on securing your NCLEX-RN examination have you considered applying in Vermont?  Your CES report can be used there as well and have lesser requirements than Texas.

Q&A: No Social Security Number, Transferring States and more…

SIXTEEN

hi!!! ask ko lang po kasi hindi talaga ako makatulog sa kakaisip.. i took nclex (california) once and i failed so i planned to re-apply again.. kaya lang kasi may nabasa ako sa forum na kapag walang SSN hindi iproprocess ang application.. is it true ba? so you mean i can’t retake my nclex na.. i’m a nurse in the Philippines.. i’m reviewing but hindi ako makapagconcentrate sa nabasa ko.. ano dapat kong gawin? i have a visa in US but it’s a tourist visa lang. 2019 pa maeexpired.. pls. help me.. ano dapat kong gawin? pls give me an advice..

As of now yes it is indeed true. I have a friend who had the same experience as you are and upon reapplying her application was denied due to the new memo. But remember that if your papers reached there prior to the renewal then most probably they will allow you to take the exam but if not they will just return your papers together with your application fee. If the latter happens, it would be best to apply to other state such as Vermont which do not require a SSN. Having a tourist visa does not change anything at all since that visa allows you to visit the US as a tourist.

DL

ask ko lng po kung anu pong state sa us ang di na kailangan ng SSN pag nagapply for nclex, kasi bumalik po ung application ko for cali, may bagong memorandum na kasi na kelangan na ung SSN,hope to hear from you soon, thanks in advance. :]

Vermont is a state which does not require a SSN but they have more requirements than California.

KATHY

hi.. tanong ko lang po.. if you dont pass the nclex, will they still send you a letter na di ka nakapasa? salamat po…pero almost a year na wala parin akong natatanggap na mail from them. i tried calling but they put me on hold. what must have been the possible problems kaya kung bakit masyadong matagal ang result? im so frustrated right now. hoping for your ideas… :)

Yes absolutely. Whether you passed the exam or not they will inform you. One reason why you did not receive a letter is if transferred from one place to another? There might have been an issue with regards to sending the mail. but one year to wait is too long best thing is to call the Board of Nursing in which you applied in and NOT Pearson Vue since they are the only ones facilitating the examination all results will still be forwarded to the Board of Nursing you applied in.

RICA

I just want to say thank you for taking time to answer my questions.

No problem I’m just glad that I was able to be of help :)

DUDDY_CHAVEZ

hello..i do have the same prob with regards to my NCLEX application…i have sent it to the California Board of Nursing without knowing about the SSN memorandum then i have received a mail returning all my application including the bank draft, finger print card, etc ..i was just thinking if there will be any option for me to take my NCLEX to other state without requesting for an SSN??..thank you in advance..your response is of a great help for me…GODBLESS

Vermont seems to be a popular choice for many since they do not require a SSN. But they have more requirements than California such as the CES.

GHEE

I’m a fresh graduate do i need to take Phil.board exam or be licensed first before taking NCLEX in Illinois?need an immediate response..thanks!

It would be best to take the Philippine Board Exam prior to taking any examinations abroad. In a way it gives you a fall back plan just in case things do not go well with your application in the NCLEX and you would still be needing to earn experience prior to being able to work abroad. And most Boards of Nursing require you to hold a license in the country where you were educated.

Q&A: Incomplete Documents, Difference of CES and Visa Screen and more…

Monday, March 29th, 2010

ANN

Hi maam!  I just have one question regarding my visa screen application.  I already sent my requirements to CGFNS and I just realized that I lack some of the documents that they need like my marriage certificate for the name change, and my highschool diploma.  Should I give them a call or should I just go ahead and send these documents?  Magastos kasi ang fedex. okay lang kaya kung sa post office ko na lang ipadala?  thanks!

Well first of all you can always check the status of your application online at the CGFNS Website if you do not have an account in their site I suggest you register because it is the best way to check on your status and the easiest way to correspond with them. I also think that those requirements are necessary to be mailed and you can send it via Phil Post or Fed Ex it doesn’t really matter the important thing is that they arrive. The issue with Phil Post mail is that there might be difficulty in terms of tracking your documents though their service has improved expect your mail to arrive in a later period as compared to Fed Ex but nonetheless it will still arrive to its destination.

I do not know what to apply for: Visa Screen or CES? What is the difference? Thank you.

First of all you need to decide on which state you are applying in because there are states that require a CES. CES basically evaluates your school records and your active licenses as a nurse if it is at par with the standards in the US. After evaluating they forward the result to the state in which you applied in. The Visa Screen on the other hand, is a requirement by most employers and is needed when filing papers for the immigration. But, before you apply for a Visa Screen its prerequisites include that you passed the NCLEX-RN and IELTS/ TOEFL examinations.

hi mam,,,naguguluhan lang ako ,,,i just got married this month, can I used my name when I was single in filling the application? kasi worried lang ako by the time na kukuha ako nang exam ang ippresent na identification ay ang passport ( it indicates my name noong single pa ako) I would appreciate your response …

I think it would be better to fix your basic documents first into your married name before anything else (e.g. Passport, Driver’s License, PRC License etc.). I just worry that you are like falsifying your documents by giving your single name when you already got married. In the long run, that would just create more confusion on your part. It will save you time and give you peace of mind. Eventually you will have to deal with the name changes so might as well just start now.

PINKAHOLIC

I just finished applying ces thru cgfns. My problem is my high school diploma , I graduated at the province (Mindanao part) and unfortunately our school registrar office got burnt. So i guess all our files were burned also. Apparently, I have with me my high school diploma , Is it okay if I  mail personally my diploma  and just had it notarized or really necessary that my secondary school will be the one mailing ? And another thing is, I have some mistakes filing up some details on my application form, by the way i applied thru online, the thing is I can’t get back to that part para ma-edit ko? What’s the best thing to do po kaya? Hope you can help me with these.

It is not necessary for your high school to mail the diploma in fact, you could have included it together with your application. I take it that the school still exist and just the documents were lost right? What you can do is photocopy your diploma and then have it certified by your school. I don’t think you can further edit the information you gave in your application form when you have finalized everything. You can only edit when you haven’t finished the application form but once you reviewed and agreed the information is correct that is pretty much it. If you want you can always inquire in their service center on how to go about such.

NATASHA

I just want to know what is CES? Do they need or require my local license in the Philippines once i applied in a particular state where they ask CGFNS CES? Thank you!

CES basically evaluates your school records and licenses and if they are at par with the US standards the result of that evaluation is then forwarded to the state in which you applied in. And yes your local license will be verified as part of the CES evaluation.

LILLADEEP

hi ms. joan! i would like to ask how i could register on pearson vue. i was typing my name, (i have a second name) and the space wasn’t enough. only a letter was missed. i was thinking of just using my first name and not include the second, but i might be questioned later on when i take the exam. it would complicate things and i don’t know what to do. i tried calling them but they always put me on hold.. please help. thanks a lot!

I am not quite sure with this issue because I am worried about the fact that the name on your ATT should be the same as your proof of identification. But then again as long as your first name is the same as the one in your passport then that might be fine since upon checking the site it says first name/ given name. But to be on the safe side of things I insist to continue to give them a call because they are the ones who can really give you the best answer. I hope this helped.

Q&A: Retaking the Local Boards or Not, Name Change in California and more…

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

SEMAJ

Hi po, graduate po ako ng BSN last 2008,I didnt make it on the Board exam locally, my husband is a US citizen base in San Diego, and he wanted to get me here.Ask ko lng po if pwd po akong mag take ng NCLEX pagdating ko don, sabi po nla mas maige dw mag review don kesa rito sa pinas. how much po ang bayad sa review at fee pag d2 po sa pinas ? tsaka ganun din po sa Cali, magkano po lhat bbyaran and what are the requirements.. pls help me po…

Here is the thing I personally think it would be best if you can retake the local board exams since it is a prerequisite in applying in California Board of Nursing. It might come as a problem for you later on when they ask for a license in the country where you were educated. Even if you give them an explanation letter it might not guarantee that they’d let you sit in for the exam since they will also have to consider your reason for not being able to take the examination. As for the review, there really is some difference based on my own experience. But the thing is it costs a lot and most reviews are really short as compared to what we have in the Philippines. Since you do not have a definite time period on when you would be able to get to the US it would be best to utilize the time you have at the moment attending review sessions in the Philippines it is cheaper and teaching method is familiar. Its more fast paced in the US and most reviews are around 3- 4 days and is quite pricey but you do get a lot of helpful insight. Kaplan in the US has a lot to offer but they charge differently for international students. Review in the US is around $300- $800 and as for the application fee in CA BON is around $130 (without the interim permit).

DANG

hi mam!ask ko lang po pano po mag change ng name for retake sa Cali..I got married na po kc so gz2 ko po sana gamitin famly name ng hubby ko..thanks poh..

You need to download,  print and fill out the Name/ Address Change Form and then provide a copy of your marriage certificate.

KATIE

ms. joan. ayos lng po ba kumuha ako ng CES sa ibang agency. without taking CGFNS exam? sa Massachusetts po daw kasi kahit CES lng

Its fine actually but the thing is the CGFNS is the most used agency in the Philippines and the other agencies where you will be requesting documents (school, PRC etc.) are familiar with the set up of CGFNS I am just afraid that if you avail of other agencies to do your CES credentials it might have issues and new adjustments both for you and the school/ PRC. Also, you are NOT required to take the CGFNS Qualifying Exam in order to avail of their CES services from CGNFS. It will only be a problem when the CGFNS Qualifying exam is a pre requisite in applying for Massachusetts which is NOT the case.

LIVING LEGEND

I am confused. Please help me. My father wants me to take exam in Saipan. Maybe he means that I should be a licensed nurse in Saipan first. This is possible but I already have my eligibility to take the NCLEX-RN in California. Which task should I accomplish first? Is it licensure in Saipan or licensure in California. Please help me, Thank you and God Bless!

It would be best to sit down for the NCLEX-RN examination for California and then upon passing, transfer your license to Saipan just so to avoid any discrepancies with your papers. And it would be a waste having an eligibility with California and not using it.
