Hi! I passed the California NCLEX-RN exam last year. How would i get my license? I don’t have SSN yet. What happens when it expires?

Unfortunately you cannot get your license without a SSN. It would be better if you endorse your license to another state before it expires. If it expires then you would have to reapply and retake the NCLEX-RN examination.

hi ms joan. i really need help with my problem. i have a cali license right now. i’m trying to endorse it to a connecticut license. i read on their website that i need to have a verification of certification from CGFNS. since my license is from cali i didn’t take the CGFNS. does that mean i have to take it so i can endorse my license to connecticut? or do i only need to submit my documents/requirements to CGFNS and have them verify it then they’ll give me a paper or something saying it’s ok and stuff? btw, i’m here in connecticut right now on a fiance visa and i’m getting married soon. thanks so much!

You just need to have CGFNS verify your documents not necessarily taker the CGFNS examination. Once they verify your records, they will be the one to forward it to Connecticut Board of Nursing. Congratulations on getting married

This is the link for the Endorsement Application for Illinois. Fee for endorsement is $50.00 and then there is a fee for CGFNS Credentials Evaluation $335 (online application) and $410 (paper application). You would need to have CA BON verify your license so to process that application you need to pay them $60 and they will send the result to CGFNS. Also you would need to take the TOEFL exam which is around $140 to $150. I hope this helped your dilemma and gives you a rough estimate of the cost you would be entailing in transferring your license.

You would need to have your credentials evaluated by CGFNS as this is their requirement. Also bear in mind that you need to request CA BON to submit your NCLEX result and that comes with a fee of $10.  I suggest you start processing your application now since transferring your license and fulfilling these requirements take time estimate 3- 6 months.

I don’t think there is a specific person to look for but as for a contact number you can place this: (916) 574-7697. Please bear in mind that if you do not hold a SSN do not push through with your application. They have recently made changes with their application process and will only accept applicants who are currently holding a US Social Security Number.

hi Joan! thanks for ur time ..my  first NCLEX was for California but i am now trying to apply for NY.what steps should i do?i am quite confused.MY research tells me that I need to have my credentials verified by CGFNS first (NY credentials verification) and then they will be the one to forward it to NYSED.MY question is.,,for the credentials verification, there are 3 forms to be printed,signed and notarized, do i have to print it out and send it to my alma mater first to have them notarized or should i send all 3 forms to CGFNS?i have all my documents with me, do i need to have some docs or forms to be filled up by my alma mater in the phil?

It seemed like there is only one document that needs to be notarized (the part with the attestation). The others are just letters authorizing CGFNS to obtain records from your school and licensing. But the signature in all of these documents should be alike.

Hi Miss Joan…I’m just worried regarding my CGFNS CES application because I’m planning to take my NCLEX here in Arizona. All my transcripts were noted received and still waiting for approval. I didn’t forwarded my marriage certificate and college diploma which bothers me a lot. Do I need to submit them? Is it delaying my application? Do I need to take IELTS? I don’t think they will be needing your college diploma since they have all your other records such as the transcripts etc. They would need your high school diploma though. As for the marriage certificate if you declared your married name then they would be needing your marriage certificate (see questions #2 and 3 of the form). Taking the IELTS or not will depend on the state which you applied in. If you have any doubts or questions about your application signing up on the CGFNS website is the best way to keep posted with your application. They do a very good job of informing you any problems with your application either via email or snail mail.

Hi Ms.Joan I have a huge huge problem BON is asking for my passport but I lost my passport which has all my arrival and departure info. What do I have to do? Hwat should I submit to them in replcament of my passport info. please help please. Thank you so much.

They are asking for your passport why? Not that I am trying to pry or anything but it helps to know the circumstances around your situation. First things first, you need to file an affidavit of loss for your passport you cannot just let that pass by. I think the DFA might have steps on how to go about such information. If they need your passport information then maybe the DFA might be the agency that can help you out with such. You also need to inform the BON that your passport was misplaced but at the same time have some proof that you took action on the case thus the affidavit of loss (as proof).

i am a little confused right now.. don’t know where to start.. well, i am planning to apply for an endorsement/reciprocity from a california license to ILLINOIS but since i am here in the Philippines, i still dont have an SSN to finish the application form, i am afraid to submit the APPLICATION FOR LICENSURE BY ENDORSEMENT and pay the amount not sure if what im doin is right.. please help me or assist me in a way, the best way i should do to have a good start and finish everything smoothly.. bottom line is i want to be a licensed nurse in Illinois even if i passed NCLEX in california.. no SSN yet, no LICENSE NUmber no everything to fill up and finish the forms.. please please need help! thanks alot! hoping for your reply..

It will be fine even without a SSN when you just submit the form for license verification from Illinois to California attach a copy of the letter that California sent to you as reference and pay the fee for endorsement. I hope this helped.

hi..i need heLp..i am actuaLLy working on my NCLEX appLication right now..but i have these questions which reaLLy bother me:
1. i didn`t take the NLE Last year because i have to go to the US as soon as i graduated..do i have to write and send a written expLAnation about this to the CALifornia BON?

Yes you would still have to write an explanation letter on why you did not hold a RN license in a country where you studied nursing.

2. how many finger print card/s do i have to send?

If you are already in the US you can just take advantage of the LiveScan process. I think it is much convenient as opposed to the finger print card process. You can download the Live Scan form in the California Board of Registered Nursing Website. But if you opt to do it via fingerprint card you just need to send one.

3. is RLE records the same as Course Description?

Nope its different. RLE is the record of your related learning experience which is kind of a breakdown of the number of hours of duty you did every year as a nursing student. It also gives them the description of what is being done during those RLE each semester. The course description on the other hand enumerates and describes each of the subject you took in order to complete nursing school.

It depends on your reason for not being able to take the local board exam. Most of the people I have encountered do not hold a Philippine RN license because they are either an immigrant or a citizen of another country.

i was wondering if anyone can help me…i am currently in seattle, washington right now…i’m about to become a resident alien and will be getting my social security number soon.  i called up the washington BON and was told i need to have my TOR evaluated with CGFNS but it doesn’t necessarily mean i need to take the exam.  is this true? and i still also need to take up TOEFL.   which is ok with me…but a friend of mine who is a resident in hawaii took a california nclex and processed a reciprocity with hawaii after he got his cali license…and he said the nclex is all that is required in cali..no more toefl…i asked about this with the BON too and they told me i need to have proof of california residence for endorsement…so i’m kinda confused right now whether to a.) just process everything here in washington or b.) try to do it “the easy way”, if it really is the easy way, and just apply for cali and have my cali license endorsed to washington.

Yes what they are saying is correct. Because the CGFNS Exam is different from the CGFNS CES wherein the Washington BON uses CGFNS’ services to evaluate your nursing degree (especially if you graduated outside the US) if it is at par with their standards. With the CES, you need to provide CGFNS with your school credentials etc. With regards to your other query, you have to understand that each state has different requirements so you cannot really compare each state’s process. The thing is though when you endorse to another state you might still need to provide the state wherein you plan to transfer to whatever requirements they might have that California did not require. I think it would be logical to just apply in Washington if you intend to practice in Washington as opposed to applying in California then endorsing to Washington it saves you time and money at the same time.

hello, i badly need help,, i just finished the ces process which i think the first step on allpying nclex in Illinois. Whats the next step after that? 1. I already printed the CT NUR/ ED NUR forms but i dont know how to fill them up.

You just need to fill up the first half of both forms which is your basic information. As for the Profession Name write: REGISTERED NURSE and Profession Code is 041

2. What about the SS#? im totally confused

Well the SSN is given to a person who is legal resident or citizen of the USA. So not unless you are either of the following you can just write N/A.

3. After filling out the forms, ED NUR will be submitted to the nursing School while the CT NUR will be submitted to PRC, am I right? just like the CES process? I hope you can help me guys! Thank you,,,

ED NUR is sent to your school and then once they have accomplished it you can send it together with your application form. The CT NUR will be given to PRC and then they will be the one to send it to Illinois Board of Nursing. Hope this helped to clear out things in your application. Best of luck!

hi.. i was planning to take the licensure for RN but i’m confused about what state should i apply. i was wondering if IELTS is required in order for me to work as a nurse in California?.. i am a greencard holder &a grad BSN in phili.. But i don’t like to take IELts. Can you pls give me list of the states that doesn’t require IELTS..

California does not require you to take the IELTS examination. There are so many states it would be too arduous to enumerate all of them. The thing is you should choose to take an exam in a state where you intend to apply to as opposed to trying to prevent a certain state because of a particular requirement. That way, it also saves you time and money.

why is it that a photocopy of diploma is included in the 1st envelope? doesn’t it belong to the 2nd envelope together with all school requirements?

Most of the time they confuse the requirement of a license/ diploma in where you were educated. Most people assume that it pertains to your BSN degree diploma when in fact they are asking for your diploma/ license that allows you to practice being a Registered Nurse. So technically, your college diploma is not a requirement either way.

please, can anyone tell me how to retake the nclex exam in NY? i took the exam last feb and i failed and i want to apply for a retake and i can’t find anywhere how the process works. do i have to start all over again? cos i called NY education department and she said i should call peasron vue for another schedule and pay $200. but pearson vue said i should contact first the state department. help. thank you.

Usually, the state board where you applied in would have a form for re-examination in which you would have to accomplish some forms and pay fees. After that, they will send you another ATT and that is the time you re-register to PearsonVue to sit for the examination.

I Just have some queries about the process for visa screen.By the way, I don’t have any idea on how to process my papers. I already have my NCLEX but I don’t have my IELTS yet(probably, I will take my exam on the last week of may or early in June)but can I already process my papers even I don’t have my IELTS? Another is, If I’m already on the process of my papers and I want to transfer my license in other states, can I do that without affecting my papers or do I need to start all over again for my visa screen? Hindmost, can u give me some website which discusses the step by step on how to obtain a visa screen.

You can apply for VisaScreen even without the IELTS temporarily but eventually you would have to take the IELTS examination to complete the processing of your papers. I don’t think that you would need to reapply for the VisaScreen even if you transfer your license to another state. Because either way you have already passed the examination. CGFNS has their hand out in which you can download which pretty much explains the process. If you have any other questions feel free to ask them here on the site and I’ll try my best to answer it.

hi maam i just want to ask kng ilang days po bago dumating ang result ng nclex(California po ang inapplyan ko) i took the exam last april 27,2009 ung mga kasama ko sa review na ng exam g april 21 and 22 meron na silang result after 15days… is it true na kpag within 15days wala pa ang result u bagsak kana?pls do reply..huhuhu tnx so much

The number of day where you receive your result is not a determinant on whether or not you passed the examination. Please bear in mind that there are a lot of things to consider like the mailing time etc. Usually it would be safe to wait for the results for at least 3- 4 weeks from the time you took the examination. After that, maybe you can give them a call to follow up the status of your examination results.

Hi mam!I just want to ask if I really have to take my ielts first before I can be eligible to take the nclex for the state of Illinois.I recently passed my cgfns exam kasi mam and nagapply ako ng nclex ko with the help of NEAC(nurse exam applicatio letter)they told me that I need to take my ielts first so that I can have my cg cert. which is very important for me to be eligible to take the nclex exam.

You need to take the IELTS in order to get your CGFNS Certificate. And prior to applying to Illinois you would need that CGNFS Certificate in order to process their papers.
