Q&A: Illinois BON Application, Endorsing To Another State vs. Applying Directly To Your State Of Choice and more…

LEI

hi..i need heLp..i am actuaLLy working on my NCLEX appLication right now..but i have these questions which reaLLy bother me:
1. i didn`t take the NLE Last year because i have to go to the US as soon as i graduated..do i have to write and send a written expLAnation about this to the CALifornia BON?

Yes you would still have to write an explanation letter on why you did not hold a RN license in a country where you studied nursing.

2. how many finger print card/s do i have to send?

If you are already in the US you can just take advantage of the LiveScan process. I think it is much convenient as opposed to the finger print card process. You can download the Live Scan form in the California Board of Registered Nursing Website. But if you opt to do it via fingerprint card you just need to send one.

3. is RLE records the same as Course Description?

Nope its different. RLE is the record of your related learning experience which is kind of a breakdown of the number of hours of duty you did every year as a nursing student. It also gives them the description of what is being done during those RLE each semester. The course description on the other hand enumerates and describes each of the subject you took in order to complete nursing school.

Hello, I was told that it’s ok to take the California NCLEX without local exam. I just have to write an explanation letter why. I just want to confirm this and if you have heard of some cases like this. Thanks.

It depends on your reason for not being able to take the local board exam. Most of the people I have encountered do not hold a Philippine RN license because they are either an immigrant or a citizen of another country.

i was wondering if anyone can help me…i am currently in seattle, washington right now…i’m about to become a resident alien and will be getting my social security number soon.  i called up the washington BON and was told i need to have my TOR evaluated with CGFNS but it doesn’t necessarily mean i need to take the exam.  is this true? and i still also need to take up TOEFL.   which is ok with me…but a friend of mine who is a resident in hawaii took a california nclex and processed a reciprocity with hawaii after he got his cali license…and he said the nclex is all that is required in cali..no more toefl…i asked about this with the BON too and they told me i need to have proof of california residence for endorsement…so i’m kinda confused right now whether to a.) just process everything here in washington or b.) try to do it “the easy way”, if it really is the easy way, and just apply for cali and have my cali license endorsed to washington.

Yes what they are saying is correct. Because the CGFNS Exam is different from the CGFNS CES wherein the Washington BON uses CGFNS’ services to evaluate your nursing degree (especially if you graduated outside the US) if it is at par with their standards. With the CES, you need to provide CGFNS with your school credentials etc. With regards to your other query, you have to understand that each state has different requirements so you cannot really compare each state’s process. The thing is though when you endorse to another state you might still need to provide the state wherein you plan to transfer to whatever requirements they might have that California did not require. I think it would be logical to just apply in Washington if you intend to practice in Washington as opposed to applying in California then endorsing to Washington it saves you time and money at the same time.

hello, i badly need help,, i just finished the ces process which i think the first step on allpying nclex in Illinois. Whats the next step after that? 1. I already printed the CT NUR/ ED NUR forms but i dont know how to fill them up.

You just need to fill up the first half of both forms which is your basic information. As for the Profession Name write: REGISTERED NURSE and Profession Code is 041

2. What about the SS#? im totally confused

Well the SSN is given to a person who is legal resident or citizen of the USA. So not unless you are either of the following you can just write N/A.

3. After filling out the forms, ED NUR will be submitted to the nursing School while the CT NUR will be submitted to PRC, am I right? just like the CES process? I hope you can help me guys! Thank you,,,

ED NUR is sent to your school and then once they have accomplished it you can send it together with your application form. The CT NUR will be given to PRC and then they will be the one to send it to Illinois Board of Nursing. Hope this helped to clear out things in your application. Best of luck!

Q&A: Retaking NCLEX-RN in California, Live Scan and more…

AMAN

hi, i am from india. i have done Bsc. nursing.i want to apply at illinois board of nursing for nclex exam.please suggust me can i take nclex exam directly after Bsc nursing and what is the application and finger print procedure? Please advice me. Thanks

Hi There Aman… It is so nice to see you here on the site :) Here is the thing I am not quite sure what BSC stands for or what BSC Nursing means. Can you explain it to me further? Is it equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree? Let us take it from there and maybe we can discuss your options.

ANNA B.

I took Nclex last Dec, 2009 and I fail, my ATT issued by California Baord indicated that it will expire on Jan 20, 2010. I want to reapply for NCLEX. Do I need to send fingerprint card again together with the reapply form plus 75USD money graft? How do I do it? and Joan, will the expiration date in the ATT will going to affect my reapply form? Please advice me. Im very appreciate your help in this matter!

I am so sorry to hear about your ordeal here is the thing when you received the letter from CA BON usually it comes with the reapplication for reexamination. Just fill out that form and then send the reapplication fee of 75 USD via bank draft. And here is the sad news an ATT is only valid for one exam so you would have to re-register with Pearson Vue and they will give you another ATT. There is a 45 day waiting period from the time you last took your exam before they can give you your ATT. As an advice, do not be in a hurry to retake the examination, take time to analyze what you think went wrong during the first time you took the exam. These things came with the score where you got the lowest scores focus on those areas and take your time reviewing. Good luck!

good day! i have big concern po regarding my application for california. second rejection na kasi fingerprints ko due to poor quality. and ganito na tlag afingerprints ko since i was a kid, hindi sxa masxado visible. tanong ko lang po if may live scan ba dito sa phil? thanks po

Unfortunately there is no Live Scan here in the Philippines it is only available in the US. My suggestion is to have as many fingerprint cards done in NBI and then send it all to the Board of Nursing that way they will have more options to choose from when processing. Also it might help to inform the one taking your fingerprint card that there might be some issues with regards to your fingerprints. Hope this helped :)

Hi Ms. Joan! Ask ko lng po US Immigrant po ako and nagaral po ako ng nursing sa Phils. Since I don’t have a license ano po bang pedeng ilagay why I don’t have a local licensed? I also got a letter from them na mgpadala ng copy ng passport ko, class & clinical rotation sched. Do you have any idea if they’re going to allow me to take the nclex exam? Saka po pla yung Date sa trascript that the registrar signed, dpat po ba recent dates yun? Thank you po..

Hi there :) You can state that you are not allowed to take the NCLEX-RN examination due to your status or you can ask PRC to write a letter explaining why they cannot allow you to take the NLE. Maybe that is the reason why they are also asking for a copy of your passport. Most people I have encountered that are in the same situation as you are were allowed to take the NCLEX-RN its just that most of them were asked to verify or give proof of their status as immigrants/ US Citizens. It would be safer to send to them recent TORS, RLE records etc. that way there would be no reason for delay in processing your papers.

hi ms joan, i applied for retake exam bon of ca. i mailed it nov 10,2009 from the phil. im now at texas u.s.a . i would like to apply for change of address and name, coz im married with a u.s citizen now. is there a fee i need to pay? hope to pass nclex rn 2nd time take.can i work here in texas if i pass the exam? please help

You can fill out the Change of Name/ Address form provided in the link. No fee to pay in submitting this form. If you plan to work in Texas you would need to transfer your license to Texas once you pass the one in California. At the same time provide the necessary documents needed by the Board of Registered Nursing in Texas.

hello po. ask ko lang po. i need to pay for my international scheduling fee. magkano po ba ang vat na kailangan ko pong bayaran sa california at wala po akong credit card na puwedeng gamitin at walang kakilala na puwedeng pakiusapan. can i go somewhere who can help me? pls answer po. thanks

As far as I know there is no VAT additional fee in taking the examination outside US territory is 150 USD. There are some NCLEX Assistance center that might do this job for you but of course this may come with additional service fees on top of the original fee.

Q&A: Applying In NCLEX-RN CA from Dr. Ian G.

Sunday, March 15th, 2009
Hi Everyone!
I received an email from a someone named Dr. Ian G. and I thought that it would be good to share with everyone his letter because I am pretty sure a lot of people are in the same situation as him. Here were his questions:
Good day Ms. Joan,
I’m glad that you are there to share your insights on NCLEX RN first takers to assist in the porcessing of the said licensure examination.  I for one is an avid reader of Pinoy BSN coz it helped me a lot in my nursing career updates.  I have just passed this November 2008 Nurse Licensure here in the Philippines.
I am glad that you found my insights helpful. Unfortunately, I am no longer contributing to PinoyBSN though most of my posts there have not yet been removed. A you can see I already established a site of my own dedicated in helping Filipino Nurses and I hope that you would still visit the new site and continue to support me here. Also, congratulations in passing the recent board examination.
Anyways, I would like to ask few things regarding the processing of my NCLEX exams.  To start, I am considering to file my application in California after reading all the tips you have posted on pinoybsn. I have also opened the California Board of Nursing website and have been clarified on few matters. I am actually leaving for the United States this May as a tourist, though no definite date yet since I will be taking my oath this April there in Manila and is scheduled for the IELTS exams this coming April as well. Once the result in my IELTS exams be released will it be needed in my application for NCLEX RN in California?
The IELTS result is not a prerequisite in applying in California Board of Nursing. You will need your IELTS once you apply for VisaScreen once you pass the NCLEX-RN examination.
I would like to ask for your advise on the things I will be taking, like is it better to submit my application once I’m already there or will I mail it ahead of time before I arrive there in the US?
Please be reminded that processing of application for the CA BON may take 3-6 months depending on a lot of factors.
After visiting the Calif BON website, I have come to realize that Live Scan for fingerprinting will be more beneficial on my part since it would take only a week or two to process since I will be available in the US by the time I will file my application, would you suggest the same way?
The LiveScan process indeed is faster but is also a bit more costly. And if you are to submit your application ahead of time then you would have to include the fingerprint card together with your application. But if you decide on processing your papers in the US then it would be okay to go ahead with LiveScan.
Is it possible that I will just request my school to hand me over the documents(sealed)  needed from my school and I will be the one to mail it to the Board of Registered Nursing in California once I’m there? Or is it really the school that has to mail the said documents? Can I request it ahead of time for them to send before I would send my application since I’m planning to send it to California once I’m already in Maryland, USA.
Supposedly its really the school that would have to send the required forms. But most schools do not offer such service so what we do is have them place all the documents in a sealed envelope with signature and school seal and then you mail it like its coming from the school. Do you get the idea? I also suggest that you use a mailing facility that is near the school. And it would be better to have your personal application sent first just for reference rather than having all the school documents first than your own application. To also minimize the chances of your documents getting lost.
And since I will be taking my oath this April in Manila, and I believe that the ID license will not be available that soon would it be possible that I will just have to send a copy of my diploma and board certification (once available) together with my other applications and just give them an explanation letter for the reason why I could not give them the ID license that soon? Will i state in my letter that once the ID license is available and that’s the time I will be sending them a copy of it?
Yes you are correct. But it would be better if you can give them a certified or an original copy of your certificate of passing and board rating. Then just send a copy of your license once you have it on hand.
Will it affect the processing time of my papers? Or better yet that I will just not state the the ID license will come to follow.
It actually depends on who evaluates your papers. But usually the certificate of passing suffices. Since they are asking for a copy of your license I think you should follow through with it so whenever your license is released just send them a copy.
Thank you so much Ms. Joan for reading this mail and hoping that you could assist me in the processing of my NCLEX RN.  Hope to hear from you soon and hope to receive a mail from you soon regarding my inquiries.  More Power to you.  My prayers are with you. God Bless!
Glad to be of help. You can view more articles in the site that may help you with your application. Feel free to leave a comment in the site and I would reply to them as soon as I can. Thank you so much for your continued support and good luck with the application.
P.S. Hope that this communication would be open for any future inquiries regarding my application.  Thank you in advance.  Thanks for the time as well.
No problem feel free to message me anytime.
