Q&A: Retaking The NCLEX-RN, CES Requirements and more…

Thanks for your quick reply, Joan. I have a follow-up question regarding obtaining an SSN (Social Security Number). What are ways to have one? I need to have it because I want to be duly registered as RN in California after passing my NCLEX. Do you think it is possible at this time of retrogression in the US particularly in California to obtain one?

The only way you can obtain a SSN is if you are a legal resident in the US. Once you are a legal resident there, you are automatically given a SSN. It would be best to talk to immigration lawyers/ experts to explore your options about this matter as it involves laws and policies in which are more of their expertise. But I think that as long as there is retrogression it would be harder for Filipino nurses to be able to work in the US.

good evening ms. joan, i took nclex last nov 2008 but i failed CA state.. clarification lang po.. kelangan ko mag take ng exam within 2 years from the date of my last examination? kung hindi ako magtatake, my application will be considered abondoned and my file will be destroyed.. ibig sabihin kapag sa nov. 2010 hindi pa ko nakakapag exam ulet, magpapasa ulet ako ng fingerprint, school credentials etc. just like applying for the first time? tama po ba? hope to hear from you ms. joan.. tnx in advance..

I am sorry to hear the news. You can actually take the exam 45 days from the last time you took the examination and yes most probably you are given a certain period to retake or else your file will be abandoned from CA BON so you would have to reapply again providing them with the necessary documents.

ms. joan, continuation of my query.. kapag ba magrereapply.. ung first page lang ng form and $75 bank draft ang isusubmit ko? wala na po bang ibang requirements like photocopy of prc licence, diploma? tnx!!!

Yes you would just need to submit your reapplication form plus the fee. If you need help on NCLEX-RN review materials maybe you could read my article regarding such on the link provided. Hope that could help you with your review. I know you can do it this time around, just take time to analyze and see what went wrong during the exam. Let me know if I can help you with anything else.

hi, i know u could help me with my delema, i am a license nurse in the phil for more than 10yrs na, unfortunately nkapagtrabaho lang aq ng 4 years qs a nurse coz i gave birth to my son, after that i was able to work in different field different from my proffession, my question is that i am now an immigrant here in chicago, i wanted to take the NCLEX am i still qualified kc parang iba na ang curiculum nla ngaun, thou im still holding a valid license in the phil. what document/paper shoul i prepare to submit for CES. thank u very much.
The Illinois BON and the CGFNS will be the one to determine if your curriculum in which you obtained your nursing degree is at par with their standards so I really cannot answer that question directly. As for your CES, you would need to download the forms at the CGFNS website. There are forms there that needs to be submitted to the school where you took up Nursing and as well as in PRC. Both of those agencies will then provide the necessary supporting documents and they will also be the one to forward it to CGFNS. On your part, you would need to fill out the application form which you can do online and pay the fees to process your CES Report. Most of the other instructions are there on the forms to be downloaded. If you have more queries let me know :) Good luck!

Q&A: Vermont Application, Forwarding NCLEX Results to CGFNS and more…

hi ma’am joan!..i failed nclex cali last january,i reapplied for the exam and already recieved my eligibility..what should i do next? is this eligibility letter they sent me is also my ATT?

Nope it is not. After receiving your eligibility you can now re-register at PearsonVue to get a new ATT. Of course you would have to pay the necessary fees to be able to get that ATT. Please take note that once you register with PearsonVue you are only given a year to retake the examination. You can get through with this endeavor just take time to reassess everything and just see what went wrong the first time you took the examination. Good luck!

hi! i just want to ask if i can take nclex exam in vermont even if i havent take my local board exam yet? thanks and more power.

You need to have a license here in the Philippines. There is a form from Vermont that will ask verification of your license.

how can i download the aplication form for nclex exam for california board of nursing.thanks

You can download the application form for Application by Examination in California in the link provided.

JANET S.

i took up my nclex last nov., 2006, but it so sadly that i did not passed… after 90 days i re-apply , then my eligibility was sent to me… until the time comes that i did not register in pearson vue and my eligibility was expired. now i am planning to re-apply it again… my board of nursing is CBNE, am i going to submit again my TOR or documents to cbne? or only the application form with the enclose of bank druft/ fee.

I am not sure what CBNE stands for what state is that? But ti be sure, please inquire in the state you applied in for the correct process before making any other moves. But more often than not when your eligibility expires you would really have to re-apply again but sometimes they have a certain amount of time where they keep your records so better give them a call to ask with regards to their policies as they may still have your file on record and just require you to pay the application fee.

hello.. i just want to ask how many days it takes before CA BON forward the result of my NCLEX to CGFNS?

In my experience it took them a month or two before CGFNS got the result. Please bear in mind that the NCLEX result for California to be forwarded requires a fee aside from the Verification Letter if I am not mistaken its $60. Hope this helps :)

Q&A: Applying for VisaScreen, Retaking NY Exams and more…

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

RONALD

i jaz wanna ask if required na ngaun na rn k muna here in the philippines bago ka mkpag apply foir california nclex??? is it really necessary??? tnx a lot

There hasn’t been any official statement on this with regards to CA BON. But based on experience, with people applying in California they have been asking for proof of license in the country where you were educated. Like what I always say this would have to be a case to case basis depending on who will assess your papers.

CAR_RN

good day ms joan.. i applied in new york but unfortunately i failed the nclex examination.. if i will be reapplying to take the examnination in the same state where will i start? will i pay for the reregistration and pay for the $200 and the exam fee of $150 only or should i start it all over again

How did you find about your result? Usually, when you get your result via mail there will be instructions on how you can retake the examination again. For the most part, usually there is a form for RE-EXAMINATION that you have to fill out and pay the necessary fees for the BON and then you wait for another eligibility letter then you can register with PearsonVue and pay the necessary fees.

hi, i just want to ask if it’s ok that my nclex bank draft was paid under may parent’s account? my parent’s name was the one written on the check? tnx so much

I guess that is okay. As long as the check was properly endorsed together with your application then I do not see any problem with it.

MARVEL

hi joan. ask ko lang about the payment. pwede ba ako ang magbayad on behalf of my sister application through check? im here in san francisco and nasa pinas yung sister ko and wala pa siya money so im the one that can pay her application.. how is that possible?

Yes that is possible. What your sister can do is send to you her filled out application and requirements and then you can be the one to mail it to the CA BON together with the payment. If she wants she can also use your address as her address so that correspondence from the CA BON would be faster.

Hi! I passed the NCLEX-RN exam last Dec. 2007 and IELTS last March. Hindi pa po ako nkakapagapply sa kahit anong agency and I don’t have a visa. My US license is in CA. What advice can you give me to beat the expiry of my IELTS which is in March 2009 and NCLEX which is in Dec. 2010? If I apply for visa screen on January, will it help?

Okay the IELTS main purpose is really for the VisaScreen so rather than having your IELTS expire you can apply for VisaScreen. You can also use your NCLEX results for the VisaScreen. Though the VisaScreen is a bit pricey its expiration is for 5 years and then you can have it renewed afterwards. Most agencies, also require you to have a visascreen so that can help you in finding an agency. Please take note that your NCLEX will still expire in 2010 despite being able to use it in the VisaScreen. The only way for your NCLEX exam not to expire is for you to be able to work in the US and obtain a SSN.

Q&A: Registering In Pearson Vue, Reapplying for the NCLEX-RN Exam and more…

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009

TENSHI

hi miss joan!i already received my eligibility last aug. I’m planniing to take the nclex exam on april 2009. But i don’t know how to register for pearson vue!how much is the fee that i must pay? one more thing, if i were to register for pearson vue, can i choose the exam date i prefer?thank you!

hey!it’s me again…i have an aunt living in california and she has a credit card. is it okay if i just send her a copy of the candidate bulletin and let her register it online via pearsonvue? thanx again!by the way, can you send me an e-mail once my questions were answered?thanx again!

Okay here is the thing you can register at PearsonVue in 2 ways. One would be via mail in which the form was sent together with the candidate bulletin and your eligibility. Or you can register online via their website. Obviously, the website is more convenient and faster but you need to have a credit card to be able to register. Initial registration is $200 and if you are going to take the exam outside of the US then there will be additional $150 to be paid later on once you book your actual exam schedule. Once you pay the initial registration of $200 you will receive in your email your Authorozation To Test (ATT).

Yes your aunt can pay for your registration fee but just make sure that she knows all the basic information. What you can do is ask for her credit card information and then you do the registration yourself online.

hi pls. i would really like to know what to do , for the retake, DO I NEED TO SEND ANOTHER FORM OF NURSING VEFICATION FORM FROM THE NURSING SCHOOL I GRADUATED? PLS THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY. another qxn is do i need to pay if i wanted a change of address.

It depends on the state that you are applying. But for most, together with the results comes an application for re-examination. You just furnish those forms and include the payment and then wait for your letter of eligibility. When it comes with PearsonVue,  usually they have a retaking policy of 45- 90 days depending on the state of you applied for.

CHZARINA

can i use credit card to pay for my application or i can only use bank draft.tnx

It depends on the state that you are applying. Some may offer credit card payments but most offer bankdrafts.

VITAMARIE
