Q&A: Transcripts from school, No SSN in applying to California and more…

LESLIE

Maraming salamat sa mga information, really help a lot. anyways, question ko lang yung TOR ko ba, kailangan ko pang pumunta sa school kung san ako nag graduate para i request.

Hi there. Yes any school forms should come from your school directly. If your school does not offer courier or mailing service what you can do is have everything sealed and have the registrar sign the envelope. You can mail it for them but still have it addressed from the school. Use the nearest mailing station from your school.

i am a licenced nurse here in the philippines and is planning to take NCLEX in CA. However, i don’t have SSN..What will i do? Please help me

Here is the thing with the new laws enforced by the CA BON it might not be possible to apply to their state board without a SSN. The best thing to do right now is to choose another state to apply to, fulfill its requirements and wait for your eligibility.

hi! i’m currently in saipan because i finished my Nursing course here, i just applied for eligibility here in saipan but its taking too long to process, i want to know if its possible to take the exam in the philippines after my eligibility has been processed instead of  takng it here in saipan? thanks

Even if you want to take the exam in the Philippines you would still need your eligibility. Before registering with Pearson Vue for the test you need to have the eligibility. I would think that it would be easier to schedule for an exam in a US continent as opposed to taking it in Manila. After getting your eligibility things would move fairly faster for you.

JAC

hi i took my nclex rn exam last week of april but until now i am stiil waiting for the result i am praying i passed the exam shut down comp ko sa 75 questions by the way california po me apply can i call them to ask if i passed the nclex pls help thanks much

The number of questions answered is not a gauge of whether or not you passed the examination. Usually it takes about a month before you get a response via mail. It might take even longer since mail is coming from the US. They are not allowed to give results via phone so just wait it out via mail.

KATHY

hi.. tanong ko lang po.. if you dont pass the nclex, will they still send you a letter na di ka nakapasa? salamat po…

Yes they will still inform you if you did not pass with the result of your exam so you would know what areas you need to work on.

CHI

hi, just wanna ask, what type of reasons does the calif. BON usually accept for not taking the PNLE? and whats the format of the letter? tnx!! GB!

Usually they do not ask for a local license if you are an immigrant or cannot take the PNLE for a valid reason but other than that it might be an issue. Please be informed that CA BON has a new rule and you cannot apply to them without a SSN so if you do not have a SSN might as well not apply to CA BON.

Q&A: Having Other Options, Investing On Exams and more…

NINA

Hello!
I want to ask if it is possible for me, a newly licensed nurse here in the Philippines to work abroad even if I don’t yet have any hospital experience as an RN? Because I’m planning to take the nursing board exam in (Sacramento)California. And your site had a lot of information about the application process. Thanks! With regards to my application, I am still torn between taking the nclex exam first or working first in a hospital. What’s it gonna be? Hoping for your reply. Thank you so much! God bless!

Hi Nina the answer to your question depends on a lot of factors. It would always be best to have a Philippine RN license because in California they usually ask this as part of their requirement. But if you are an immigrant or a US Citizen then that might not be much of an issue. Having experience will always be good to have on your side. Some employers may not require it but I think it would it would give you a good advantage if you have one. Experience in the field of Nursing will give you more opportunities not just in the US but to other parts of the world. Hope I was able to answer your question :)

YURIY

Hi Joan. I am planning on taking NCLEX to become a nurse in Michigan, which requires going through CGFNS. The first part of my story happened three years ago. At that time I had nursing college #1 diploma from abroad. I applied to CGFNS for credentials evaluation but had trouble with getting the answers to CGFNS requests from my college. To be more specific, my college did send a copy of my diploma with transcripts, but when CGFNS required additional clarification regarding course descriptions, my college refused do provide them (bitter corruption so to say). So, I canceled the case. Keep in mind that CGFNS has the copy of my college #1 diploma and transcripts on file. The second part of my story: I went to a nursing college #2 abroad and just graduated. My nursing college #2  diploma alone is completely enough to be admitted to NCLEX. I know people with exactly the same credentials who went through CGFNS and are nurses now. Now, when you apply to CGFNS in the application they ask you to provide your past case number, if you’ve ever applied previously. So, I have college #1 and college #2 diplomas. It seems there is no way to mention two but ask CGFNS to evaluate just college #2 diploma (which I need). Also, I can’t hide the fact of my college #1 diploma because I have to provide my previous case number (they’ll see instantly what was in the old case). I’m 100% sure that now I can’t get any correspondence from college #1, no request from CGFNS will be replied to by them, they wouldn’t even send the copy of diploma again.

Which brings me to the question. I’m applying for the second time now and providing my old case number. Do you think CGFNS will require college #1 diploma and transcripts to be resent again, or what they have on file form the past application will be enough? If they want the documents to be sent from both college #1 and college #2 regardless of what happened in the past, but receive documents from college #2 only, will they start evaluating college #2 or will be waiting for all documents to arrive? If they begin to evaluate college #2 and see that credentials are enough for NCLEX, will they let me take the exam despite the fact of no response from college #2? Can I do anything to help solve the problem or increase chances of success? Do you know of any similar cases? Thank you for advice.

Wow this is a pretty complicated situation and to be honest this is the first time I have encountered such. I find it confusing why you needed to get a Nursing degree twice. But since its there already, I think it would be possible to reapply with CGFNS with a new case number I think that doing this will eliminate the confusion between College #1 and College #2 considering that with what you were saying CGFNS did not acknowledge college #1 right? How long has it been since you applied with CGFNS? It might be possible that your previous application might have been cancelled out already but then again with your CGFNS ID number that is a permanent thing . Let me know if I can help you with anything else.

MHEE

Hi, good day. Just dropping by to ask something since every one here getting a good response. I just recently pass nclex here in chicago then still waiting for my license coz they told me to pay another 50 dollars which I really didn’t expect. But then, I want to work in virginia and planning to get reciprocity there. I am really not sure how long it would take and wat really are the requirements as well as the process in doing it. I really want to start my job as soon as I can, but, as I look in hospital requirements here they do want to have RN’s who are already experienced and obviously I am not. What can I do? Hope you could make my confused thoughts straightened. Godbless to everyone. Oh! I’m a new grad from PHil too.

Here is the thing you cannot change a hospital’s mind if they prefer somebody with hospital experience. It is always good to volunteer as that gives you some form of experience that you need and it might open opportunities for you later on. Also it would help if you make up your mind and stay in one place. If you decide to push through with Virginia make sure it would be the best choice for you. Because transferring your license from one state to the other takes a lot of time and money.

RIZZEEH

hi… i am applying for nclex in the state of cali.. my documents were already sent there (from the philippines) but unfortunately CABON did not accept my documents anymore due to the new policy which requiring for SSN.. i was advised to look for another state which do not require SSN.. my problem is, i do not know what state that require NCLEX-RN only? because some states requires CGFNS, IELTS or TOEFEL.. i need an advice on what am i going to do..pls.. its highly appreciated.. thank you.. i need it to be done quickly.. help me.. thank you

Well I hate to bring this to you but this new law by the CA BON we really cannot do anything about it. Like what you said, you just need to find a state that will work best for you. Most of the states do require either a CGFNS, IELTS, TOEFL, CVS and the like. If you are really determined to take the NCLEX-RN it would be wise to any of these things. Come to think of it, exams such as the IELTS can also be useful in applying to other countries so its like hitting two birds with one stone. I cannot make the decision on which state you want to apply to aside from California. Once you made that decision fulfill their requirements and you are good to go.

CHIE

hi miss joan!ü please help me. . . very confused. . . i need to endorse my cali license to vermont, its about to expire. . . dont want to retake NCLEX-RN anymore. . . where should i start?? i have many questions in my mind, please help me. . .First, i know i need to apply for CES, but there are 2 types of CES report, which one should i apply for? Healthcare Profession and Science Report, or Full Education Course-by-Course Report??

Any of the two is accepted by Vermont.

Second, Vermont requires Candidate Report from California, how will i apply for it?? Third, does the Request for Academic Records For Credentials Evaluation Service should really come straight from my school or can i include it with my application. Same as with the Request for Validation of Registration/License For Credentials Evaluation Service from PRC?? Super thank you miss joan. . .ü

You need to write a letter to California BON requesting for a copy of your test results and pay $10. Any school records should come from your school and not from you. CGFNS is very strict when it comes to these things. As for PRC, yes and they will not allow you to send it for them. I hope this helps good luck!

Q&A: Changing or Updating of Address, ATT Information and more…

Monday, April 12th, 2010

SANDRA

HI! am sandra… and i just graduated BSN in the philippines last March 2009… I wasn’t able to take the NLE coz my immigrant visa will be expiring soon and i need to go here in the U.S. to avoid revocation… nwei, i went here in CA and started filing my application for NCLEX… I already had my file number but I still have to work on the documents that are to be submitted by my school… And now, i moved to a new location and thought that i should immediately notify the BON about the change of my address… I already sent the completed form (which i got from their website) to them and its been a month but i never heard anything from them since then… I was waiting for their reply, for as to know whether they’re already updated my info; only to find out that i’ve sent it to their ‘generic’ address and not to their ‘more specific’ address where all revisions/renewals where being processed… My question is, would they be processing it by now? or should I send another completed form to them? Coz I am just worried that they might be sending communications to my old address and am not even notified of what to do next… hope, you could help me out… thank u…

I don’t think that they send a reply when you request for a change or name/ address.  I did the same before and didn’t get a reply from them I just assumed that they got my request and updated their records. If you want you can give them a call if they received your request. Whether you sent it on their PO Box address or their actual address they’d receive it. Most of their mail are sent in the PO Box address they just give their specific address because some couriers do not accept mails to PO Box address.

MACKEY

hi miss joan ask ko lng po medyo naguguluhan ako..US citizen po ako but d2 ako graduate sa pinas and d2 narin lumaki.d ko na po ba kailangan ng tofel or ielts and local license?i aquired my citizenship through birth and already got my ss number.

The IELTS/ TOEFL is not necessary unless indicated by the state you applied in. Since you took Nursing in the Philippines you might still need to fulfill that requirement.

FENG

thanks for the help….but i still another question/problem ang that is i cant remember the month when was i last applied my exam….is it right if i just put in when was i last received my eligibility?thanks again…..

They are looking for the date you last applied for the exam not the time you received your eligibility those 2 dates are far apart from each other and is not accurate. They might need the specific month to track back on your documents etc. Try to look at receipts from couriers or at least give the closest estimate from the time you received your eligibility if you really cannot remember the time you applied in California BON.

ES

hello po ask ko po sana what if nagpaprocess ako ng eligibility sa NEAC and then gusto ko na kasi magpaATT and i want to do it on my own ang concern ko kasi yung mga infos like address and phone number baka hindi magmatch… paano po yun..?? kasi syempre nung prinocess nila yung eligibility ko address nila yung nakalagay…

The question is, is your eligibility with you? because that is the most important thing. If it is, then you can always file for an address change so that results of your exam will be forwarder to you and not to them. The application for the ATT is done with Pearson Vue not with the Board of Nursing. If you worry about the date being different I do not think it would be much of an issue since the important thing with your ATT is that your name should match your ATT and your passport. You just need to change your address so that results of your exam will be mailed to your address and not theirs.

TIN

hi i need your help badly.I took my nclex last 2008 and i failed.I took it in the philippines and my att laready expired.I am here in NY now and i want to reapply for NCLEX..what steps should i do?where and how can i apply for my att?please advise..thank you

In which state did you apply for your first examination? If you applied in New York you would have to get the form for Reapplication/ Reexamination. And before getting an ATT you would need to have a letter of eligibility from the Board of Nursing of your choice.

FRANCIS

Hi Joan, I am Francis, one of the avid readers of your advice. I emailed you because I want to ask you something about my application for NCLEX examination. The thing is, i already received my eligibility letter a year ago when im still in the Philippines and I am now here in U.K. I now want to continue my application for nclex, my question is if i submit my registration form from here, i will use my current address here in U.k., do you think it will create confusion and delay my ATT? And one thing more Jo, coz I already paid $107 for application and fingerprint card, do I need to pay another $200 together with my regstration form? Sorry Joan for bothering you, I hope you have time in reading and responding to my question. Thnak you and God bless. More power..

You can always file a change of address for free in the California Board you can find the form in their website. As for your ATT, it would not be much of an issue since you are filing the application for that in Pearson Vue not with the CA BON. The important thing with your ATT is that your name matches the one written in your passport. The $200 is for the registration at Pearson Vue so yes it is necessary to pay that. And if you are to take the exam outside the US then you would have to pay an additional $150 once you schedule for an actual test date. Go ahead with your filing and update your address at CA BON and you are all set. Do take note that once your register with Pearson Vue you are ONLY given a year to take the examination. Thank you for your question and let me know if you have further clarifications… definitely not a bother ;)

Q&A: Transferring from one state to another, Requesting for IELTS result and more…

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

DEE

Good day! I’m planning to apply for Washington NCLEX and probably take the exam there after receiving my immigrant status. I’m still in the Phils. right now and I’m told that I need to take the IELTS or TOEFL, but I’m not sure where it’s needed and what is accepted by the state. I also read that CGFNS is required in WA. Do i still need to take the CGFNS even if i’m already an immigrant there? Also, I’m considering to apply for Cali NCLEX, since they don’t require CGFNS and have it endorsed to Washington instead? Would that be helpful or not? Thanks so much!

Here is the thing, if you are planning on practicing in Washington might as well apply directly there since even if you apply in California and then endorse your license to Washington you would still have to provide the requirements of Washington so you won’t be able to get away from it. The IELTS or TOEFL varies, for some state they prefer for you to take TOEFL and some are not so particular but in the case of Washington Board of Nursing, they need you to take the TOEFL. Your status in the US is not the basis on whether or not you need to take the CGFNS the fact that you were educated and took up nursing outside the US means you need to fulfill such requirement. Also, please do take note that they are asking for CGFNS Credentials Evaluation Service (CES) NOT the CGFNS Qualifying Examination. I hope this information helped and good luck with your application!

CP11

You will need to write an explanation letter on why you do not hold a license in the country where you were you took Nursing but I’m not quite sure if that would be the best reason to give to them. Each application is evaluated on a case to case basis.

May tanong p po  uli ako. Nandito po ako sa NJ and plano ko po sana kumuha ng Nclex in California. If ever makapasa po ako pwede po ba ako magreciprocity in NY? or kailangan ko p rin po mag apply sa NY???

You can endorse to New York ut you would have to fulfill the other requirements of the New York Board of Nursing.

RYAJ

It’s been over a year since I last visited your website, I was surprised and even more enthused that it has improved…still your compassion remains the same. I must commend that you are a big help to those queries by other nurses like me…and for that thank you very much..

Thank you so much for the kind words it really means a lot. Thank you also for staying true and loyal to the site. I am continuously challenging myself in trying to find ways to help out my fellow nurses and hopefully in the many more years to come I would be able to do such. It is my pleasure to be able to help you guys out in the little way that I can. Maraming salamat!

Mam Joan, I was able to take the NCLEX-RN examination in California about a year ago, but unfortunately I failed, my question is, since I was found eligible for an examination in California before, I’ m planning retake this year, shall I still pass another set of requirements, that they asked before or simply the retake examination form plus the appropriate fee/s.

I am sorry to hear such news. Just a piece of advice, do not let that defeat you instead try to recall and analyze what you think went wrong the first time you took the examination. Take advantage of the results given to you and focus on the areas where you got low scores because more or less these topics will pop in the next time you take your examination. Just take your time in reviewing and try to see things in a positive light. The fact that you know how it feels and how the flow of the examination goes give you a great advantage on how to prepare for the exam the next time you take it.

You do not need to provide them again with all the requirements all you have to do is download the re-apply form. Fill that out and provide the application fee of $75 in the form of bank draft named after the BOARD OF REGISTERED NURSING.

FENG

im seeking for your help,i took my nclex last dec. 2009but i didn’t pass…now i would like to apply again, what po mga req. meron n po akong  form form re-application…yun lng po ba ang kailangan at unf fee n $75?ung mga diploma at license po kailangan pa ba?ung nursing program verification need prin po ipadala?salamat po….hope you can hep me with this….thank you so much

Sorry to hear the news feel free to read my tips to RYAJ (above) regarding the examination and you might find my NCLEX-RN Review Insights helpful. You do not need to provide them again with all the requirements all you have to do is download the re-apply form. Fill that out and provide the application fee of $75 in the form of bank draft named after the BOARD OF REGISTERED NURSING.

BANAFSHE

please let me know how can I send my IELTS score to CGFNS electronically?I am woundering sent it to which email address?
may I have my test centre mail it to CGFNS?

The IELTS Testing Center would be the one to mail your IELTS result NOT you. You need to download the IELTS Application Form print page 3 or visit the test center where you applied and request for a form there, fill it out and pay the necessary fees so that they can process your results and mail it to CGFNS. Make sure you have your valid ID, CGFNS ID Number and bring the copy of your IELTS exam result as well.
