SAVEDBYGRACE

Miss Joan.. your site is really a BIG help for us confused applicants… I’m planning to take the NCLEX-RN exam hopefully within the next year because I need to complete all the needed requirements for California. My Diploma together with my PRC license will be released on November. I just have this 1 problem. my school is not yet accredited by Ched. i saw that one of the requirments needed is SCHOOL ACCREDITATION. We are the 1st batch of nursing graduates in our university and it’s really confusing becasue they said that our university  is autonomous so we dont need to have an accreditation from ched. how can we provide this “school accreditation”? thank you.. God bless!!

The California BON just needs your school to fill up the following documents: REQUEST FOR TRANSCRIPT and BREAKDOWN OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM. As long as your school can fill out those forms and provide you with your TOR and RLE records I think you would be fine. The thing is PRC allowed you take the licensure exam that means your school is recognized.

hello.. I would just like to ask if it is possible to apply for nclex in new mexico even if I don’t have a license yet since I’m a new local board passer and it won’t be available yet for the next 6 months according to the PRC

As long as you passed the local boards and have your license number (which I believe is indicated in the claim stub given to you when you register)  you can apply in New Mexico. You need to fulfill the CES requirement clarify with PRC if you can do such even without your actual license being ready.

hi po…I really need your help…I’m planning to apply for NCLEX-RN sa new mexico BON…But, I have a problem…I don’t know if how many years will the new mex license expires…I don’t have any idea bout that…sabi ko nga na sa CaLifornia na lng pero knowing that may retroression pa, baka d pa ko alis dito ng phils. sa loob ng 3 years at mag-expire na calif. license ko. Ano po ba yung advantage at dsadvantages kung sa NEW MEXICO po ako aapply? thank you and god bless!

I know that you worry about the retrogression but I think this is the best way to look at things. Apply to the state where you intend on working and staying. Choose will it be California or New Mexico? A lot can happen within that 3 year period so we cannot keep on assuming. Application wise it would be cheaper in California since they do not require a Credentials Evaluation Service (CES) which costs $328 aside from this there are processing and other fees to be incurred.

Kung sakaling after 3 years wal pa akong ssn# ibig ba sabihin uulit ako ng exam?

Congratulations on passing the examination. Thank you for supporting the site and I am honored to be a part of your success. As for your question, the answer is still unclear on that part but for most people I have asked the answer is yes. Good luck with your future endeavors and continue to support the site. See you around!

Q&A: Waiting Period for Applications, 2×2 Passport Type Picture, PRC License, New Mexico Application Guide & more…

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

Here are another batch of queries from the readers:

MARY GRACE

this is mary grace!! i hope you can help me. I sent my application last month. But the problem is, I was not able to attach a letter to my photocopied diploma explaining why i have no license yet. Plus, I’ve sent a 2 x 2 passport type photograph which is not exposing my ears. I’m kinda worried coz they told me that when you say “recent 2 x 2 passport-type photograph”, your ears must not be covered by your hair. And if ever, i made a mistake, how many months will cause this delay? i hope you could help me with this very big problem of mine. Thank you Joan. A reply from you would be of great help.

Hi Mary Grace. The best advice I can give you is to give it at least a month before you call and inquire about your application cause in that span of time your application might have be in the process already. Ask them regarding the copy of your diploma if that will suffice as an explanation on why you do not have a license. As for the picture as long as it is 2×2 size I guess that would be fine. I just mentioned regarding the showing of ears and shoulder lever because usually that is standard procedure in taking passport or ID pictures. The thing is I cannot give you an exact duration on how long it will take due to the mistakes and time of the board they are very busy people. So like what I mentioned give them a call and inquire about it.

PRETTY

hi!..i just want to ask for an advice! i’ve olredy pass my NCLEX application last oct but i failed to attach a copy of my license or board certificate, however i’ve attached a copy of my diploma..will this affect my application process?..what is the best thing to do?..is it okei if I send it thru fax?? thanks!i would really appreciate any advice you can give..Godbless..

I don’t think that our college diploma is an equivalent to a registered nurse license. The college diploma only gives us a BSN degree but does not entitle us to practice nursing here in the country. I think this will affect your application so the best thing to do is to give the Board of Registered Nursing a call and inquire about your application since it has been 5 months. When you call them, just inquire about your application and ask them if you have any deficiencies so you can fix it right away. Though understandably the process takes 4-6 months but it won’t hurt to follow up your application. If they say you lack a letter of explanation, send them your letter of explanation and I would say to send it via mail or courier since I don’t think they accept faxed letters.

CRES

Hi, Thanks for your response. Have plans of applying in NEW MEXICO Board of Nursing. Been to the website. Would you be kind enough to enumerate the step-by-step process. Kind of confusing. Thanks so much again.

Hi Cres sorry it took me a while to come up with the article to help you out. Nonetheless, I was able to go to the New Mexico Website and I made a step by step guide. So to read on my take on how to go about it click on this link: New Mexico Application Guide. Hope this helped and let me know if its still kind of confusing. I tried to delete the unnecessary steps on our part as international nurses. Good luck with your application.

NEZZ

hi there joan its me again.. california po un state na gusto ko eh.. nagdownload na ko ng application form sa http://www.rn.ca.gov… anu un print ko ba un lahat kc ang dami eh.. ill wait for ur response.. tnx and God Bless!!

Hi Nezz… I would suggest printing everything so you won’t miss out on anything. Because as much as I am giving out guidelines here of course the official documentation will still be your best source. Anyways, I made an article about applying to California and you can read it here: Applying to California Board of Nursing. Most of the stuff you were asking in your previous comment is there. Let me know if you have any more questions :)

Yes most of us International Nurses do NOT have the SSN so it is okay if you do not place anything there. Just leave that blank. Once you pass the exam and find an emloyer that is I think the right time to worry about such. So for now just leave it blank. The interim permit is also not necessary for not unless you can work legally in the US. But if you just plan to take the exam here in Manila I think it would be better not to apply for it. Just pay for the application and fingerprint card processing fee. Regarding the bank, I suggest you go to a bank where you or your parents have an account that way they can entertain you better since you are an existing account holder. Most major banks do such transaction and ask them about making a bank draft or a manager’s check. Make sure that it is payable to: BOARD OF REGISTERED NURSING and the fee is $107.00 without the interim permit. If you still wish to get an interim permit just add $30.00 to the mentioned fee. Please take note also that the fee will be sent together with your application. Hope I helped you with your queries let me know if you need more clarifications. Good luck with your application.

ms jo, congratz po for passing again the local board exam..i just received po my eligibility last feb 15 after five months of waitng.ask ko lang po when is the best time for me to register for my att?is it necessary for me to register by the time i think im ready to take the test or should i register early po para di ako maubusan ng slot kc balak ko mga june po magexam?thanx in advance….

Thank you so much :) Glad to hear that you received your eligibility I am so happy for you as well. The thing is when you register with PearsonVue via the Internet and pay the $200 registration fee you will get your  ATT in a matter of day or two via email. And when you get your ATT you are given ONE YEAR to take the examination. Given the situation you presented to me since you already made up your mind in taking the exam in June you can already register with PearsonVue and once you get your ATT ask for a schedule for the June exams as soon as possible especially if you are going to take the exam here in Manila since there are actually slots but most of them are broken slots since people of course request for certain dates.

Another advice I could give you is that to plan everything out before making any steps. So think about the time you need to prepare for the exam, review and test taking etc. Select your preferred dates so if one date is not available you won’t be pressured to get just any day that is available while talking with the operator. Worse comes to worse if all of your preferred dates are taken ask the operator what days are vacant and work around it. I hope this helps and good luck with the exams.

Also, if you use a Yahoo! email in registering with PearsonVue make sure to check your bulk mail cause usually that is where the ATT is sent for some strange reason. If you have another email address that is NOT Yahoo! I think it is better to use that. Most people thought they didn’t get their ATT and waited for months for it only to find out it was in their Bulk folder. So keep an eye on that as well. :)

MOCHA

Gd am,miss joan, bumaksak me ng local, nagaply me ng nclex…as of now, ngrereview me nclex…..lst feb..i just receive a leter from board of nursing ni california….may kulng daw akong nsend sa kanila…wla daw ung explanation leter ko,tor,at clinical experience…. ryt now my tor n uli ako at clinical experience….pwde bng tor ay Xerox?at ok lng bng nkalagy sa remark ay “for local purpose only? at nawla ko n ung lter of explanation ko…pwde poh bng makahingi ng example ng explanation leter…. may nbasa me d2 minsn d ko lng mahanap ung link… sna mkapagreply poh agad kyo…. nahihirapn n ako sa kakaicp sa papers ko/…

Hi Mocha sorry to hear about your news. Here is the sample format of my Letter of Explanation.  As for the other requirements that you are lacking I suggest that you give them an original copy as opposed to photocopied. And the copy you have at hand might create doubts since it is indicated “for local purpose only” thus prolonging your process even more which is what we want to prevent. So request a copy of your TOR and Clinical Experience from your school and then have them place it on a sealed envelope with signature. Then make your letter of explanation and attach a cover letter saying that here are the requirements you requested and provide them a copy of the letter they sent you.

So to sum things up here is what you will be sending the California BON:

  • Original Copy of TOR and Clinical Experience (if possible sealed in an envelope with the registrar’s signature)
  • Letter of Explanation
  • A Cover Letter explaining why you sent the documents above and attach a copy of the letter they sent you.

Hope this helped and let me know if you need anything else. Good luck!

Well that is it for this week feel free to leave comments so I can answer them again next time around. Thanks for all your support and spread the word about Philippine Nurses Info.
