Q&A: Changing or Updating of Address, ATT Information and more…

SANDRA

HI! am sandra… and i just graduated BSN in the philippines last March 2009… I wasn’t able to take the NLE coz my immigrant visa will be expiring soon and i need to go here in the U.S. to avoid revocation… nwei, i went here in CA and started filing my application for NCLEX… I already had my file number but I still have to work on the documents that are to be submitted by my school… And now, i moved to a new location and thought that i should immediately notify the BON about the change of my address… I already sent the completed form (which i got from their website) to them and its been a month but i never heard anything from them since then… I was waiting for their reply, for as to know whether they’re already updated my info; only to find out that i’ve sent it to their ‘generic’ address and not to their ‘more specific’ address where all revisions/renewals where being processed… My question is, would they be processing it by now? or should I send another completed form to them? Coz I am just worried that they might be sending communications to my old address and am not even notified of what to do next… hope, you could help me out… thank u…

I don’t think that they send a reply when you request for a change or name/ address.  I did the same before and didn’t get a reply from them I just assumed that they got my request and updated their records. If you want you can give them a call if they received your request. Whether you sent it on their PO Box address or their actual address they’d receive it. Most of their mail are sent in the PO Box address they just give their specific address because some couriers do not accept mails to PO Box address.

hi miss joan ask ko lng po medyo naguguluhan ako..US citizen po ako but d2 ako graduate sa pinas and d2 narin lumaki.d ko na po ba kailangan ng tofel or ielts and local license?i aquired my citizenship through birth and already got my ss number.

The IELTS/ TOEFL is not necessary unless indicated by the state you applied in. Since you took Nursing in the Philippines you might still need to fulfill that requirement.

FENG

thanks for the help….but i still another question/problem ang that is i cant remember the month when was i last applied my exam….is it right if i just put in when was i last received my eligibility?thanks again…..

They are looking for the date you last applied for the exam not the time you received your eligibility those 2 dates are far apart from each other and is not accurate. They might need the specific month to track back on your documents etc. Try to look at receipts from couriers or at least give the closest estimate from the time you received your eligibility if you really cannot remember the time you applied in California BON.

ES

hello po ask ko po sana what if nagpaprocess ako ng eligibility sa NEAC and then gusto ko na kasi magpaATT and i want to do it on my own ang concern ko kasi yung mga infos like address and phone number baka hindi magmatch… paano po yun..?? kasi syempre nung prinocess nila yung eligibility ko address nila yung nakalagay…

The question is, is your eligibility with you? because that is the most important thing. If it is, then you can always file for an address change so that results of your exam will be forwarder to you and not to them. The application for the ATT is done with Pearson Vue not with the Board of Nursing. If you worry about the date being different I do not think it would be much of an issue since the important thing with your ATT is that your name should match your ATT and your passport. You just need to change your address so that results of your exam will be mailed to your address and not theirs.

TIN

hi i need your help badly.I took my nclex last 2008 and i failed.I took it in the philippines and my att laready expired.I am here in NY now and i want to reapply for NCLEX..what steps should i do?where and how can i apply for my att?please advise..thank you

In which state did you apply for your first examination? If you applied in New York you would have to get the form for Reapplication/ Reexamination. And before getting an ATT you would need to have a letter of eligibility from the Board of Nursing of your choice.

FRANCIS

Hi Joan, I am Francis, one of the avid readers of your advice. I emailed you because I want to ask you something about my application for NCLEX examination. The thing is, i already received my eligibility letter a year ago when im still in the Philippines and I am now here in U.K. I now want to continue my application for nclex, my question is if i submit my registration form from here, i will use my current address here in U.k., do you think it will create confusion and delay my ATT? And one thing more Jo, coz I already paid $107 for application and fingerprint card, do I need to pay another $200 together with my regstration form? Sorry Joan for bothering you, I hope you have time in reading and responding to my question. Thnak you and God bless. More power..

You can always file a change of address for free in the California Board you can find the form in their website. As for your ATT, it would not be much of an issue since you are filing the application for that in Pearson Vue not with the CA BON. The important thing with your ATT is that your name matches the one written in your passport. The $200 is for the registration at Pearson Vue so yes it is necessary to pay that. And if you are to take the exam outside the US then you would have to pay an additional $150 once you schedule for an actual test date. Go ahead with your filing and update your address at CA BON and you are all set. Do take note that once your register with Pearson Vue you are ONLY given a year to take the examination. Thank you for your question and let me know if you have further clarifications… definitely not a bother ;)

Q&A: Transferring from one state to another, Requesting for IELTS result and more…

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

DEE

Good day! I’m planning to apply for Washington NCLEX and probably take the exam there after receiving my immigrant status. I’m still in the Phils. right now and I’m told that I need to take the IELTS or TOEFL, but I’m not sure where it’s needed and what is accepted by the state. I also read that CGFNS is required in WA. Do i still need to take the CGFNS even if i’m already an immigrant there? Also, I’m considering to apply for Cali NCLEX, since they don’t require CGFNS and have it endorsed to Washington instead? Would that be helpful or not? Thanks so much!

Here is the thing, if you are planning on practicing in Washington might as well apply directly there since even if you apply in California and then endorse your license to Washington you would still have to provide the requirements of Washington so you won’t be able to get away from it. The IELTS or TOEFL varies, for some state they prefer for you to take TOEFL and some are not so particular but in the case of Washington Board of Nursing, they need you to take the TOEFL. Your status in the US is not the basis on whether or not you need to take the CGFNS the fact that you were educated and took up nursing outside the US means you need to fulfill such requirement. Also, please do take note that they are asking for CGFNS Credentials Evaluation Service (CES) NOT the CGFNS Qualifying Examination. I hope this information helped and good luck with your application!

You will need to write an explanation letter on why you do not hold a license in the country where you were you took Nursing but I’m not quite sure if that would be the best reason to give to them. Each application is evaluated on a case to case basis.

May tanong p po  uli ako. Nandito po ako sa NJ and plano ko po sana kumuha ng Nclex in California. If ever makapasa po ako pwede po ba ako magreciprocity in NY? or kailangan ko p rin po mag apply sa NY???

You can endorse to New York ut you would have to fulfill the other requirements of the New York Board of Nursing.

RYAJ

It’s been over a year since I last visited your website, I was surprised and even more enthused that it has improved…still your compassion remains the same. I must commend that you are a big help to those queries by other nurses like me…and for that thank you very much..

Thank you so much for the kind words it really means a lot. Thank you also for staying true and loyal to the site. I am continuously challenging myself in trying to find ways to help out my fellow nurses and hopefully in the many more years to come I would be able to do such. It is my pleasure to be able to help you guys out in the little way that I can. Maraming salamat!

Mam Joan, I was able to take the NCLEX-RN examination in California about a year ago, but unfortunately I failed, my question is, since I was found eligible for an examination in California before, I’ m planning retake this year, shall I still pass another set of requirements, that they asked before or simply the retake examination form plus the appropriate fee/s.

I am sorry to hear such news. Just a piece of advice, do not let that defeat you instead try to recall and analyze what you think went wrong the first time you took the examination. Take advantage of the results given to you and focus on the areas where you got low scores because more or less these topics will pop in the next time you take your examination. Just take your time in reviewing and try to see things in a positive light. The fact that you know how it feels and how the flow of the examination goes give you a great advantage on how to prepare for the exam the next time you take it.

You do not need to provide them again with all the requirements all you have to do is download the re-apply form. Fill that out and provide the application fee of $75 in the form of bank draft named after the BOARD OF REGISTERED NURSING.

FENG

im seeking for your help,i took my nclex last dec. 2009but i didn’t pass…now i would like to apply again, what po mga req. meron n po akong  form form re-application…yun lng po ba ang kailangan at unf fee n $75?ung mga diploma at license po kailangan pa ba?ung nursing program verification need prin po ipadala?salamat po….hope you can hep me with this….thank you so much

Sorry to hear the news feel free to read my tips to RYAJ (above) regarding the examination and you might find my NCLEX-RN Review Insights helpful. You do not need to provide them again with all the requirements all you have to do is download the re-apply form. Fill that out and provide the application fee of $75 in the form of bank draft named after the BOARD OF REGISTERED NURSING.

BANAFSHE

please let me know how can I send my IELTS score to CGFNS electronically?I am woundering sent it to which email address?
may I have my test centre mail it to CGFNS?

The IELTS Testing Center would be the one to mail your IELTS result NOT you. You need to download the IELTS Application Form print page 3 or visit the test center where you applied and request for a form there, fill it out and pay the necessary fees so that they can process your results and mail it to CGFNS. Make sure you have your valid ID, CGFNS ID Number and bring the copy of your IELTS exam result as well.

Q&A: Applying in New York, SSN Issues and more…

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

EARL

Hi. I would just like to ask. Is it ok if I put my uncle’s address in the mailing address on the application form? since he’s in New York. Because after three months I’d be staying there anyway. And is it also ok if i put in the IMMIGRATION STATUS that Im temporarily in U.S even if Im not yet there? Can I notarize my application form here in the Philippines? Thanks! Your help would really be appreciated!

It would be fine to use your uncle’s address for your application. The thing is even if you are staying with your uncle that doesn’t mean that your immigration status also changes although there is an option of being a non immigrant but the thing is you are not yet even there and if you declare that that is equivalent to giving false information not unless you submit your form once you get there in the US. If you want to pursue towards that direction it would be best to submit your application form once you get there and just process the other requirements such as CVS-NY etc.

JOHN V

I have a question regarding about my ATT, upon printing my ATT i totally have a different address printed on my att because i was using my sister’s address at america for mailing purposes only which i was their for a vacation and applying for my Nclex application…how can i change my ATT to my address here in the phils?… it say’s in the info that i have to match my name and address to my identification card which is my passport. Are they gonna print a new ATT for me? or this ATT that i just printed is the one I’m gonna pass?.. thank you. hoping for your reply would help me. thank you again. and have a great day.

Hi There. I personally think that this might not be an issue since in your passport it doesn’t indicate an address where you are living. The important thing is that your name and identification (passport) matches the ATT those are the crucial things they look at when you take the examination. But if you feel uncomfortable, you can always contact Pearson Vue for the change of address.

ANDREW S.

Fantastic Website!

Thank you very much for the kind words.

Hi there.. I have a different query… I am  NCLEX Cali passer.. I have given a job offer to Saipan.. Does saipan provide SSN ? and is it the same for the entire US so i can get my license from California?? And i want to know the way of living there if i will be relocated there. thank you so much!

The SSN is being provided by the US Government/ Immigration not by any state boards of nursing. And each person who is legally staying in the US are assigned with a SSN. As for your relocation, this will depend with what you and your employer agreed upon but most probably if you want to work in Saipan you would need to relocate there since Saipan and California are far from each other.

ERI

Wala pa po akong license kasi po yung Cali nagrerequire naman ng SSN pero I have no way to get it since I’m here sa Pinas. Another thing po is yung CGFNS exam…kelangan ko pa po bang kumuha non? Mejo buhol-buhol po ang kaalaman ko sa mga reqts for para makakakuha ako ng nursing license sa Missouri. Hindi naman ako masyado matulungan ng employer kasi first time nila maghire ng nurses out of the country…

Congratulations! Most of the requirements you need for Missouri Nursing Application can be seen on the link provided. You do not need to have a SSN in order to verify that you passed the NCLEX-RN examination in California. You just need to submit the form that is supplied by the Missouri Board of Nursing to verify your license and pay the fee needed to process such to the California Board of Nursing. And yes you would need a Course by Course Report from CGFNS as a requirement by the Missouri Board of Nursing. Let me know if I can help you with anything else.

HAZEL

Hi maa’m Joan, Gusto ko lang po sanang malaman maa’m kung kailangan ba talagang certified true copy ang i submit ko for my Diploma? andito na kasi ako sa U.S tapos dala dala ko and original diploma ko, ano po ba ang dapat kong gawin?at saka maa’m puede po ba akong magtake ng NCLEX sa California kahit wala akong local license hindi na kasi ako nakapagtake after my graduation kasi malapit ng ma expire visa ko kaya umalis na lang ako after graduation. at saka maa’m tatanggapin ba nila or are they going to process my application kahit wala pa akong social security number, last year pa kasi ako nag apply for my social security number pero hangang ngayon wala pa rin akong natanggap but they gave me a proof of letter stated that i applied already for my social security number.thanks a lot in advance maa’m and have a nice day!!!!

You can just send a photocopy of your diploma rather than sending your actual diploma since they won’t be giving that back to you. In relation to this, please take note that the diploma they are asking for is the one you get from PRC stating that you are a registered nurse not the one given by the school. There isn’t a specific rule in California that you need to have a local license to sit for the NCLEX-RN examination but be ready to make an explanation letter on why you do not hold a license in the country where you were educated. This is usually a case to case basis. They will process your application even without the SSN but upon passing they will write a letter to you asking for your SSN in order for them to provide you with your actual license. Also, please take note that  the SSN is given to legal residents/ US Citizens. Hope this helped. Good luck with your application.

Q&A: CVS New York, Fingerprint Cards and more…

Monday, June 1st, 2009

ABBY

Hello po! Regarding po sa NCLEX-RN Application, I already submitted my Application and the requirements to the BRN. Those requirements I submitted to them are the ff: Application Form, Fee, Copy of Diploma, Educational Breakdown, RLE, Photograph 2×2, a Live Scan Form, everything what they need except my license. After a couple of weeks I received their initial evaluation and  their still looking for a copy of my license from the Philippines. I graduated last 2008 October and just moved here right after my graduation without taking the local board exam there. I still deciding if I go back to the Philippines and take the board this November or do you have any other way to how to get qualify for NCLEX exam without looking for my local license. Or is it really required to have a license in the Philippines for applying NCLEX in California or any state board of nursing? I’m looking forward to know it. Thanks a lot. God Bless!

Here is the thing, if you are an immigrant or a US citizen who just took Nursing here in the Philippines then you can reason out with them that it is possible that the PRC will not allow you to take the examination in order to obtain a local license. Most BON’s would ask for your local license.

RAYMOND

Like for example in NY, its not a requirement but they do require you to have your school credentials verified by CGNFS);correct me if im wrong, but does it mean i still need to take CGFNS in able to take NCLEX newyork..

No you do not need to take the CGFNS examination all you have to do is avail of the credentials verification for New York also done by CGFNS.

NIKKI

good evening. just like to ask po, where can i get a fingerprint card? could it be possible if i download and print it directly from the internet or do i need to buy? i’m planning to take the NCLEX-california but i’m residing in the philippines. hope you can help me. tnx.

The fingerprint card is given for free by California BON. All you have to do is request it online and they would mail you 2 pieces of it. You cannot print the fingerprint cards. Clicke here to go to the link.

KAZAM

just asking about the fingerprint card in CA, medyo may onting lukot kc ung FC, ok lang kaya un.. tipong slightly fold un lower right side, nun pinadala kc d2 ganun na.. valid pa rin kaya un or do i need to have a new request of FC?

To be safe it would be better to order another set but then again I worry that the result would be the same. If the card is not indented or no fingerprint marks is affected by the fold that might still work. Also, when mailing your fingerprint cards together with your forms make sure you place it in a hard envelope to protect it from further damage.

JACKDANIEL

Hi, I would like to ask some instruction on how to change state from California to Vermont?  I already have my ATT at California BON and I haven’t schedule my exam yet.  Another question, is that true that California license expire after 3 years and you will retake again the nclex exam?

Since you haven’t take the exam yet its either you re-apply to Vermont or take the exam for California and then once you passed transfer your license to Vermont. Either way, it would cost you some amount of money. And yes as of now if you cannot provide a SSN for 3 years in California you are forced to retake the examination.
