Q&A: Missouri Application, SSN Issues and more…

PRINCESS:

Hi Ms. Joan! I need help, I have my California License and now I just applied for my endorsement of license to the state of Washington. I need to give a Visa Screen to my employer. Do I have to wait for my WA State license in order to process my Visa Screen or can I file it now, because i don’t have a WA license yet

If you really intend on practicing in Washington it would be best to wait out for your license to be transferred from California to Washington. Because you would need to have your license verified as part of the requirement for VisaScreen. Also its important to know where your employer would be placing you is it in California or Washington? But since you also mentioned that you already applied for endorsement to Washington (meaning your papers are now on process) it would be best to wait for its result just so to prevent any discrepancies.

hi just want to know how to take the nclex again? Thank you very much for your time.

First of all which state would you want to reapply to? Or is this your first time applying for your NCLEX-RN exam? Either way you need to decide on which state you plan on applying.

Hi miss joan.. i passed the exam [california] June, may expired po ba talaga yan if hindi ako nakapag present ng SSS number sa kanila within years, does it mean po ba na i have to retake it again if i wasnt able to present a SSS number?? advice naman sa next step if mag-agency po ba ako or waht.. thanks po…

Congratulations! Well unfortunately, the SSN letter from California Board of Nursing does have an expiration. If I am not mistaken, they are giving you three years to take provide with a SSN so they can issue you an actual license. With the recent retrogression it seems difficult to be able to provide such because if there are no visas for nurses there is little chance you will also be able to get hold of a SSN. Realistically speaking if you just want to secure your license, meaning not retaking the exam you can transfer it to a state that doesn’t require one such as Vermont. The thing is though there are other requirements by Vermont that needs to be accomplish and of course this comes with a price. Another advice I can give you is to use the time given by the CA BON use that time to save up for possible transferring of license/ endorsement to another state and maybe a year before your license expires that is the time you think about endorsing it. Also you can hope that by then hopefully the retrogression has been lifted and more opportunities for nurses arise.

Hi Ms Joan ask ko lang po kasi nag apply na po ako ng NCLEX last December 2009 US citizen pa ako and I used my US address on my application kasi mas madali daw pag US address ginamet up to now wala pa kong narereceive na letter from BON normal po ba yon? Kasi nababasa ko pa sa iba 1 month lang may letter na sila nakukuha from BON Im just worried about my application. Please help me kung ano po dapat kong gawin? at kung normal po ba na two months na wala pang reply? thanks a lot po.

As I always stress out all applications are a case to case basis. But an advice I always give is that after a month its usually reasonable to follow up on the status of your application so that by then you will know what necessary actions to take in order to push through with your application. Try giving them a call (this is the best way to get a fast and direct answer). Always check or ask your relatives in the US if they have gotten any correspondence from the CA BON and they might have just overlooked it. Let me know if you need  more information I would be more than willing to help out ;)

Thanks very much for giving me the link for the Missouri endorsement. I have a few questions about it:

1. I can fill in the Missouri Endorsement form at home except for Section VI which needs to be verified by a Notary Public? Will any Notary Public do, or do I need to go to PRC to have it notified there?

I think it would be best to go to a credible notary public and PRC seems to be the best way to go.

3. The form is asking for a license number (Section III). Yes, I did pass NCLEX California, but I don’t have the actual nursing license. How do I get the license if I’m in the Philippines? I don’t have an SSN. I have no way of getting to Cali since I don’t have any kind of visa.

You do not need the actual license in order to do this. You need to submit a license verification form the Missouri Board of Nursing and send it over to California Board of Nursing together with the fee which is $60 it would help to attach a copy of the pass letter you received from California BON as reference.

4. “You need to have a credentials evaluation service, approved by the board, send our office a course?by?course evaluation report or have the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) send our office your CGFNS certificate. A list of credentials evaluation services can be found on our web site or by contacting our office. A Temporary Permit cannot be issued until the course?by?course report or CGFNS certificate and evidence that you were originally licensed in another state or territory by a recognized examination are received and evaluated.” — This part was a confusing for me. Does it mean that I need to send only one of the three requirements? Also, I’m not familiar with the requirements being asked because BON California didn’t ask for those before. Can you please explain the quoted statement for us?

CGFNS Credentials Evaluation Service (CES) is one of the products offered by CGNFS some US States get the service of CGFNS and other companies alike to evaluate your educational degree and if it is at par with the US standards. So instead of the state boards evaluating your credentials they let companies such as CGFNS do it for them. Unfortunately, you would need to have the CGFNS or any of the credited agency mentioned in their site evaluate your school records.

These are my concerns for now. I hope you can shed light so that I (and some people, too) will understand this endorsement process. Thanks so much and more power Ms. Joan!

I hope this helps and let me know if there are things that are still unclear with regards to the process. Love to help you further with this endeavor :) Good luck!

After passing the CGFNS certication program, can I still apply for an eligibility to take the exam for Washington state without taking the IELTS yet? Thanks so much for the reply. This sure will be a great help on my application! More power! :)

Well here is the thing I checked the requirements for Washington Board of Registered Nursing and they require the CES which you can get from CGFNS and the TOEFL before becoming eligible to take the NCLEX-RN examination. So please take note that you are suppose to take the TOEFL not IELTS if you intend to apply to Washington.

anyone here taking the cgfns qualifying exam on Mar 2010? i need accurate advice as to when is the best time to apply for the IELTS exam. im sitting for the mar 2010 cgfns qualifying exam, is it more practical to wait for the qualifying result before i apply for ielts? no one would want to pay for the ielts exam if he/she failed in the cgfns qualifying exam. has anyone tried this strategy?

I think it would be logical to wait for your results first prior to taking the IELTS. Scheduling for an IELTS exam is much easier as opposed to CGFNS or the NCLEX-RN exam and they have available dates all year round. Plus the IELTS exam has a validity of 2 years after passing it so it would be a far more logical choice to wait out for the results prior to applying for the IELTS.

hi..gud eve…!im bothered kc my application for nclex ay bumalik stating na “we recieved your transcript but need hrs. for microbilogy and ana/phi sent to the board from your school of nursing.THE BOARD DOES NOT ACCEPT TRANSCRIPTS SUBMITTED BY APPLICANTs”….Im a PT grad, so na tapos kuna micro and ana/phi noon when i enroll sa nursing crinedit naman ng institution ung 2 subject na yun, my problem now is 2nd tym na ko mgaaply sa dati kung school kung saan ko natapos ung micro and ana/phi ko, ok lng ba nag pagawa ko ng explanation letter to be address sa head ng BON na natapos ko ung 2 subject ko tas crinedit naman ng instituttion na were i graduated nursing…tas vise versa sa nursing school na were i graduated…pls help me……diko alam kung ano 1st gagawin ko…

Here is the thing… the school where you completed your nursing degree should have reflected those subjects in their transcript if they credited those subjects from your previous school. You can verify with your school where you took up nursing if these subjects are reflected in your transcript if not, maybe they can write a letter addressed to the Board of Nursing declaring the number of hours for the said subjects. And then, the letter should be mailed by the school to the Board of Nursing. I hope this helps let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Hi! Just wanna inquire kasi may friend ako. Nagexpire na ang att and reg nya for Marianas Island pero hindi cya nakatake ng exam and she wanted to apply for Cali BON, what will she do? Will she have to do teh process all over again or will she just make a reregistration?

Registration for Northern Mariana Islands and California are different. She would have to apply and fulfill the requirements for California if she intends to apply there. But if she wants to continue her application for N. Mariana she would have to check first the validity of the records she has existing with N. Mariana Board of Registered Nursing.

TARAWARA

Just want to ask if I need a local license in order to take the NCLEX? I tried to search it but, I couldn’t find any. Do you know which States do not require a local license? thank you so much!

It depends on what state you plan to apply to. But it would be best to secure a Philippine Nursing License as most states do require a license in the country where you took nursing.

ELAINE

hello po can you please help me. i’ve registered and recieved eligibility notice last january 2007 now the thing is, i was not able to send back the application form that was sent to me , for premission to take the test on what state and etc… now i’d like to know if my application is still valid, i mean can i just send the form or apply online to pay the 200 thru credit card and 50 still outside u.s.a. or i have to re-apply?as in the form and fingerprint card again? and start all over again? or only the application form ? and pay for 75 dollars and that’s all, since i already have my fingerprint card with them with my last application? please help me hoping for your response soon…

I am assuming that you applied for the California Board of Registered Nursing. Usually their eligibility is valid for 2 years so if you received yours in 2007 that might have expired already meaning you would need to have a new eligibility. But for what I know California Board of Registered Nursing keeps records of applicants for three (3) years. The best thing to do is give them a call and see if your records are still in good standing. If not, then you would have no choice but to reapply and do the whole process all over again. Verify first with the California Board of Registered Nursing before registering to Pearson Vue and paying the $200 as once you have your ATT you need to take the examination within the year.

Q&A: Getting a SSN, Information Discrepancies and more…

FMCOR

yes, i am  having the same problem too..i plan to apply in Washington state, what do i need to do to obtain the fingerprint-based background and the social security number they are needing initially for the application? thank you! looking forward on your reply! thanks! Godbless! :)

You can click on the link provided for Washington State Trained Outside The US Application. I did not seem to see any information with regards to it having a requirement for fingerprint evaluation. As for your problem with regards to the SSN as per their instruction if you do not hold one you need to contact them at this number: Customer Service Center at 360.236.4700.

BEVERLY

Hi..i want to ask something, ang nailagay ko kasi na city sa NCLEX application ko is Cabanatuan instead of Cabanatuan City. I received my eligibility and the letter states that the address should be the same sa record ng board at sa pearson vue. I haven’t registered s pearson vue but i am wondering how do i change my address sa record ng board. Will it matter ba if i will not include the word “city”? Thank You.

Well if you do the same with your Pearson Vue records I don’t think that will be a problem. What is even more important are the personal information such as your name, birth date etc. make sure that they are the same with your passport when you take your examination.

IRENE A.

good day po! maam, please help me, i completed my review for my nclex examination, but still, i dont know how to register. please send me a step by step process on what to do on registering here in the philippines. thank you so much.^^

All you have to do is got to the Pearson Vue website And from there the step by step process will be presented to you. Make sure that you have your Letter of Eligibility when you register at Pearson Vue because once you get your Authorization To Test you are just given a year to take the examination.

PACIFICNURSE

To respond to Hazel, you should probably apply for illinois and then endorse to Saipan.  Illinios has considerably more requirements, but it will be easier to endorse from any mainland state to Saipan than vice versa.  If you are missing SS#, TOEFL, then you may want to apply for Saipan, but you

To Barb, just keep calling the Saipan BON. They are often closed but it is best to call after 1:00 p.m. local time.  They do close for random days, but they do answer calls.

Thank you so much for your insight I’m pretty sure it will help them with their application.

CHRISTIAN

Good day, Ask ko lang po kung anu po ang process to apply for nclex?san po ako mag start?thx!

First you have to choose what state you want to apply in. Since each state has their own list of requirements at least from there we can narrow your choice down.

MARIA LIZA

Just want  know how I can check the status of my application with Saipan board of nursing, which was filed last week of August. Where can I follow up or inquire about it?

Unfortunately the Northern Mariana Islands  Board of Nursing does not have a website. You can contact them at these numbers to follow up the status of your application: Phone: (670) 664-4812 FAX: (670) 664-4813. Hope this helps as per one of the readers advice it is best to call at 1300H their local time.

Q&A: Applying To Washington BON, Visascreening and more…

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

CHIE

thanks a lot to you guys!! Godbless!! =)

No problem Chie thanks so much for always supporting the site!

MIGZ

hey joan. Is it advisable, if not beneficial, to apply for visa screen already even if you’re still about to take the NCLEX-RN and the IELTS? Thanks

Nope. I would suggest that you take the NCLEX-RN or the CGFNS qualifying exam and the IELTS prior to applying. A passed NCLEX-RN or CGFNS and IELTS are preliminary requirements prior to applying for a VisaScreen. Hope this helped :)

LOVELYANN

i would like to ask kung magsasubmit pa ba ako ng mga credentials coming from the school kung gusto ko mag apply ng reciprocity sa vermont? nakapasa ako ng nclex nov.2007 state ng california, mag eexpire ang nclex by 2010.ano ang pwede ko gawin para hindi maexpire ang nclex ko? one thing na nakikita ko yung mag apply ng reciprocity sa vermont kaya lang, do i need to start over again from the start? yung may mga papafill up an sa school at mga requirements coming from the school ulit like transcript, rle breakdown? please help me. thank you so much.

Unfortunately, yes you would have to start again in terms of the requirements. What would happen is that is California would just endorse to Vermont that you passed the NCLEX (this is done with a form being sent to California by you) and the rest you would have to be the one to provide it for Vermont. Also, Vermont has a form on their own for school documents etc. I suggest that you make the most out of the 3 year period provided since these things also entail time and finances. But if you have the resources you can go ahead and transfer your license.

DIVYA

hai,iam going to take the TAKE NCLEX EXAM 2 TIME,BEC I DIDNOT PASS 1 TIME,I APPLED FOR CALFORNIA BAORD OF NURSING AGAIN BY PAYING 22$,AND AGAIN PERSON IS ASKING ME TO PAY TOTAL 350$ TO THEM.as i belive i should only pay 150$ tp them for exam centre, why should i pay extra 200$ to them gain,i dont understand, help me outt

You need to pay again the $200 registration fee at PearsonVue since your first registration is only valid for one examination. I know that it says there in your Authorization To Test (ATT) that it is valid for one year but its also only valid for one take of the exam. And then, the $150 is additional payment if you are going to take the examination outside of US Territory. That is why all in all you have to pay them $300 again. I hope this helped and let me know if you have anymore questions.

JOAN22

To all nurses na gustong mag endorse sa Vermont..you have to visit their website at www.vtprofessionals.com nandoon na po ang lahat na explanations na kailangan sa endorsement process, you have to do everything as required and of course, you have to submit evrything from the start, like verification sa school at license information. As fellow nurses, I would like to share this to u because I applied Vermont too. Thanks Ms Joan for sharing your information to all of us and Godbless..

Thanks again for the information :) This will really help a lot of people.

APRILLE

hi po,,help nmn po.pano po ba mgapply sa washington for nclex.may froms na po akong na download, kya lng di ko tlga maintndhan kng pano ung processing.wla nmn ung breakdown ng fee kng mgkano? can anyone help me onthis matter?? tnx po tlga

Here is the link for the breakdown of fees for Washington. So basically for the application you would have to pay $90.00. I am reading the application packet and it seems like you need to take the CGFNS Qualifying Exam not unless you have passed the NCLEX-RN exam in another state then you can proceed with the application. If you have further questions please do not hesitate leave comments here and I will get back to them as soon as I can.
